Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski Boots for children

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Junior ski boots tend to have a much lower flex than adult boots, from this I presume that this is a good idea for children.

At what point / age would somebody benefit from moving into adult boots?

Specifically thinking of my 12 yr old. Who I would class as a competent skier. We got her boots last season so of course she had a masssive foot growth spurt over the summer and is now wearing size 5 shoes.

If her feet do not grow between now and Feb / April then she can still use the same boots (just!) so contemplating getting her the same boot again next she’ll size up (Salomon Girly T3) but obviously she is of a size she can wear adult boots just want to get a feel at what point she would be better transferring?

@clarky999, thanks, is there a guide as to switch over?

She is very slim but very strong, last time I measured her she was 152cm tall but very light.

So hopefully she will benefit from junior boots for a good while yet?

@NickyJ, skis and boots don't (really) know how tall you are (obviously, leverage plays a part). What does she weigh?

@NickyJ, not a definitive answer but I've just bought junior boots for my 14 year old (slim, light but quite strong - swims to a high standard) daughter, who is 162 cm tall, weighs about 50 kg and wears euro 38 shoes. Bought more on fit than flex, but they are plenty stiff enough. She's a fairly competent skier (ESF gold star 2 years ago) but not overly aggressive on the slopes.

Yes I am pretty sure Juniors are the way to go now.

@under a new name, I will weigh her if I remember as don’t know.

However was after a guide as to what the factors are (and thresholds) that cover when to transition.

@NickyJ, Junior boots appear to go at least two sizes bigger than my small feet! I think it'll be done to whether she decides they're too soft or not?

My 11 yr old (races at a reasonable level, skis 35-40 days a season plus dry slope year round) just moved down from an RS70 Lange kids to an RSJ65 which seems quite a bit softer then the 5point gap would suggest. His skiing definitely benefited, ie the 70 was too stiff. He’s only 35kg, but more than compensates for this with the speed he skis at. I wouldn’t put him near adult boots yet.
