@Ingemar_Skidmark, it stands for 'agent de surveillance de la voie publique'. They are responsible for directing traffic at busy times, making sure people park 'tidily' in public car parks and generally keeping things running smoothly on the streets. They are usually most visible on changeover days. I've never seen one trying to 'police' skiing in the street before!!

@Ingemar_Skidmark, it's very simple.......you just need to ski faster than an ASVP guy can run (or be bothered to run!).

Anyone flying in this weekend will have an amazing couple of days at least. Everything off tete de saix was hero snow with a side of faceshots until GME closed at 1400. Mix of avi risk and not wanting to ferry down endless blown knees from the pisted areas being lumpy from morning snowfall.
Will be amazing off piste this weekend and on piste with a reloaded snow pack.

So fantastic to arrive to this fresh snow. We got here at lunchtime through heavy snow. Never seen so much in Morillon before. At least 6 to 8 since. As said above whole mountain shut down by 3.30 or 4. Avi risk 5. Looking forward to putting down fresh tracks in the morning although a little apprehensive using Vercland gondola. It looks ancient. How many people can get in one?? Is it really slow??

@snowmam, 4 people can get in one (if they are good friends!), but their skis are outside..... Not that slow, and a real experience as it won't be here in a few years time.
Just hoping it won't be a black flag day tomorrow................

Today’s snow was very impressive and prolonged(still snowing in Carroz) but on piste it was very heavy and needs the temps to drop back which I think may go the opposite way.
Off piste has been fantastic all week with masses of dry and powdery snow but not sure today’s snow will be quite as good.

@sj1608, he says it was not him! But he did see them ski past Ballin...wonder if they grabbed a cake on the way past. He got stuck and ended up having to ski down into Morillon and get the bus back to LC. Take care everyone skiing today.

Sadly quite heavy so hard to plough through unless there was a good slope.

Snowing gently all day today in Morillon & Les Carroz, fresh snow everywhere, and LOADS of it. Couldn't see a damn thing up at Tete des Saix due to cloud/fog/snow so we stayed lower most of the time, still quite a lot of powder on piste in places, had a cracking time trying to guess where the bumps were. It's going to be marvellous when the sun comes out!

Anyone out there got any idea why the blue run Laberieu going back down to Morillon has been closed for the past wee while? And any chance it will be open again any time soon? I'd quite like to be able to ski back to my apartment next week!

We skied it yesterday all the way to the bottom it’s a bit icy and artificial as you get near the end but everything is open now. Great skiing everywhere tons of snow.

We have had a great week. So much snow everywhere bluebird since Monday. Best snow we have had in this area and we have skied it over 7 seasons. Usual complaints about shaved areas bottlenecks carnage early and late on the links and grading but that’s all a part of a ski holiday.

Hi everyone, new member and first post. Hopefully I'm posting in the right area.
We head to Flaine in a couple of weeks (our first time there). Just wondering what the 'supermarket' is like for food. Going to bring what groceries I can with us, but will need to buy meat etc there. Is there a decent selection available at reasonable prices. We are staying Terraces D'eos Montsoleil. Think I have sorted skiing in and out, although will get the bus into Floret for our lessons of(private)of a morning as they start at 9. We are intermediates, just hoping this isn't too difficult.
If you have any advice please let me know, taking 3 teenage boys on my own as hubby is deployed.

Welcome to the forum@Polaks,
We find that meat is always one of the biggest cost difference you'll get when buying "on the mountain " choice there should be ok though. We work with that by just using minimum quantity of meat in cooking to mitigate overall cost. It's not really a hardship as individual person size can be fairly low for healthy meal. Not to complain, it is what it is, so we just work with it.
Those apartments are really good, one of our families favourite places to stay. Hope you enjoy it 
We found it really easy to ski in and out of, but bus is also convenient. Morning busy times it can be better to get the bus going away from slopes as it runs in a loop that comes back past you as last stop on it's way to slope, so can be full at peak demand.

@Polaks, welcome to snowheads!
It sounds like you are driving to Flaine. If you are, there is a large Super U in the valley just before you start the drive up to Flaine. This will be far better in terms of choice and price than anything in Flaine itself and you drive right past it.
In terms of Flaine supermarkets, there is a SPAR in Terrasses D’Helios, located just above the Eos block and part of the Montsoleil complex. It is quite limited and expensive but convenient. It shuts in the middle of the day which can be a pain if returning for lunch.
Down in the centre of Flaine (Forum) is a Sherpa supermarket and this is better and cheaper than the SPAR but you have to lug your shopping back although I think they deliver if you spend enough.
With regards the ski in/out, if they have opened the Gerats chair lift early (sometimes 8:45) then this is easier than the bus but if there is snow then the buses are usually a bit quieter.
There is loads of snow at the moment so you will have a great time no matter where you shop.

Thanks for your reply. I should have mentioned we are flying but we all have checked in bags so can take so food with us. Thanks for info regarding the supermarkets. I'll try to get to the sherpa, if they can't deliver that's the bonus of three teenage boys. . There has to be something right.
That's great to know about the ski lift, I didn't think It would start till 9, thanks.
We are very excited and looking forward to it. And you're exactly right...it won't matter where we shop or what we eat, it will he fantastic.
We are Aussies living in the UK for one more year (3 in total). Boys had never seen snow until we went to Morillon in April 2017. Theu love it, and couldn't bear the thought of not having a ski holiday during the winter.

@Polaks, Flaine is a great place, we went for 7 years consecutively, haven't been back for a couple of years, but you can get the "yoghurt pot" lifts from Forum to Foret, they just before the GMC gondola, will be much quicker than using a bus, ( if I've got my bearings right on where your staying) I'm sure they open before 9, or there is a small funicular between the two which runs all day.

@geoffknight, I read @Polaks as staying in Terrasses d'Eos, which is up towards Montsoleil (lovely apartments, stayed there twice) a few minutes walk up the hill from Foret. Only options in the morning to get to the slopes are to either get the bus down to Foret or ski down from the back, which also involves getting the Gerats chair, as already noted. The yoghurt pots (or Benny, as we call it) don't really come into play.
Re: supermarkets, there is also a Spar in Foret in the shopping centre by the Perdrix Noir pub. It's bigger and better than the one at Helios but not as good as the Sherpa in Forum (less busy though). There's also a good bakery next to that Spar, although reception at Eos runs a croissants and bread delivery service and you just collect from there from about 7am.

If you only need two or three items, rather than Sherpa, I get bus to Helios, ski down to Spa there and ski back down to Eos ski locker. Minimises walking!

@under a new name - I haven't visited yet this season, but no, I don't think so. Sounds like you might be thinking of a different lift. The "yoghurt pots" are just the short, standy-up lift (the telebene) that links the front neige at Forum with the top of the magic carpet in Foret. I couldn't see it being worth their while replacing it.

Does anyone know what is going on with the Sairon chair at Morillon?
I was there at the start of the month and there were problems, intermittent closures etc but looking online now it seems to be closed for whole days. The queues for Les Essert chair must be enormous.
