Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

What position to mount bindings on Marker Piston Plate

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I have a pair of Blizzard DH skis that have the piston plate already installed (these are 2015 but never used). I am putting on a pair of Marker Race XCell bindings. What pre drilled screw holes do I use for a boot sole length of 327? There seems to be a "guide" out there that says what holes to use for different bsl, but I can't seem to find it.

Thanks,
Bill

The plate is predrilled so it's dead simple to 'mock-up' the bindings location with your boot to put the boot centre line on the mounting line etc so you can see which holes to use. Have the heel in the middle of it's adjustment range when you do it and to guarantee enough adjustment to set the forward pressure correctly. If you can't figure this out yourself you really shouldn't be mounting them yourself.

 Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@V95,

have you ever used DH skis before?

What are you planning on doing with them?

Very limited utility...

and I would go further than Jon and suggest that if you don't know how to mount the bindings, you really shouldn't be on those skis.

I once blagged some 225cm DH skis off the Rossi rep for a day, omg, impossible............
Maybe they're easier these days Very Happy

 Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

There is no center line on the plate or the skis. I am using them for kiteskiing on ice. Have you ever mounted bindings on this plate before? What is the “mounting line” you speak of on this plate? And yes, I have mounted bindings before.

@V95, kite skiing, what, where you require a serious amount of turniness?

So they’ll be, like, totally unsuitable?

And it doesn’t take an engineering genius towork out the centre line... being halfway between pairs of holes...

You clearly don’t understand that with kiteskiing on ice, you simply need to hold the best edge possible. I’ve been kiteskiing for 27 years now, since the days of two handle foil kites and chest harnesses. But hey, thanks for your expertise. The insulting comments have made me laugh several times this morning. I found the info needed on page 69 of the Marker manual thanks to a different forum where someone who actually knows what they are talking about kindly replied.

@V95, you don’t need any manouevrability?

Ok, well then, they’ll be perfekt.

You did ask a reasonably obvious to answer question with some conflicting information - i.e. anyone with the skill and experience to ski on DH boards will have picked up the collateral experience to know the answer already.

But hey, the internet, eh?

Maybe they're not actually DH Race skis, but downhill skis, if you Google downhill skis you just get regular alpine skis......
Maybe the OP can put us straight as to the length/model.
But as a layman, DH Race skis are only good for one thing, going straight at warp speed as I found out!

@KenX, You wouldn't put the piston plate on recreational skis, plus the OP has got Race XCell bindings for them.

 And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I would have thought kite skiing on ice = a frozen lake or similar and not much turning at all. Proper DH skis sound ideal.

 So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Thanks guys! You are correct. Ice kiting means on a frozen lake, going straight, hold an edge and go fast. You have re-established my faith in the people of this forum.

@V95, then, perfect.

Where do you live to get such big frozen lakes? Scandinavia? Great Mid-West?
