When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

LDA cancels Toussaint opening

Les Deux Alpes usually opens for glacier skiing for a week at the end of October for the Toussaint (All Saints' ) holiday. The resort has announced that because of the hot summer and the condition of the glacier (the glacial lake emptied spontaneously a few weeks ago when the retaining snow wall gave way, so no water there for snow cannons) they will not be opening for the holiday. Apparently they didn't open for Toussaint last year either, so that's two years running now, looks like that situation is becoming the norm. Tignes website are claiming that they will be the only resort open. Either morning or afternoon for €22.

Given that it has snowed about 10 cm since they postponed the official opening of Tignes and temperatures have been above freezing even up on the glacier for the last 2 weeks it is amazing they are opening anything. They probably should postpone again until there is some reasonable snowfall.

The Tignes conditions don't look much better than LDA, apart from LDA have a huge crater at the end of the glacier where the lake drained.
