Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Grandvalira Saved

Looks like Grandvalira in Andorra avoided breaking up, great news.

From https://www.planetski.eu/news/10931
Quote:
The Grandvalira ski area comprises the resorts of Pas de La Casa & Grau Roig on one side and Soldeu & El Tartar on the other.

It is 210kms in size and became a joint area in 2003 after decades of talks and negotiations as old rivalries between various parties were put to one side for the greater good.

It has been a resounding success with numbers up and a strong brand has been created to rival the ski areas of the Alps.

It sees around 1.75m skiers and snowboarders each winter and it is in the Top 20 of the most visited ski areas across the world.

They have a joint lift pass and marketing arrangments yet there was a very real threat that the two would break up.
It has now been announced that the area will remain and the ski resort of Arcalis, will join the group.

It takes the ski area to 240kms.

We understand the negotions were long and difficult.

Senior government officials were also involved in the deal as there was a fear any break up could harm the national economy of Andorra.

The terms of the agreement stipulate that the duration of the new contract will be indefinite, but after 10 years there will be an additional two-year period in case one of the parties wants to break away.

Reaction has been swift.

"This is fantastic news not just for the ski area but also for Andorra as a whole, and with the expansion of the ski area to also include Arcalis is a great additional benefit for visitors to Grandvalira," said Steve Hull from the company Andorra Resorts.

"Lots of new investment has also been promised, so we are excited to see how things develop," he added.

Can only be good for skiers. Bravo!

This is excellent news. Soldeu makes a friendly family resort, Pas makes a decent party town, but only when they are added together do they make a decent ski resort with enough skiing for a week.A very sensible (and un-Andorran!) decision.
