Looks like being much colder as an arctic blast is funneled down over the UK and into Europe by high pressure to the North West of the UK.
Quite hopeful that the recent improvement in Scotland will be built upon, a quick thaw/freeze on Thursday should consolidate what's there followed by much colder air being introduced over the weekend. There is pretty good agreement on this lasting right through next week. No bumper snow events on the horizon yet, but there should be at least snow showers on and off throughout the cold spell. Fingers crossed for a cheeky wee polar low to pop up nearer the time.
For the alps, also much colder. I would expect something like 10 degrees below the seasonal average by next Tuesday. Nothing exciting looking in terms of snow in the next week, the further east the better chance of catching a shower or 2 I think.
Hints in the longer term that when the atlantic gets its act together and breaks through the block it may produce another big dump to rival last week's. This is way beyond the reliable timeframe though.

Thanks Brian,
Will NW Ireland see any of this cold stuff or are we stuck with the usual pishey atlantic stuff?

johnboy, possible but doubtful at low levels, if you've got any fields 1000 or so feet up you stand a much better chance.

All our land is below 150ft . Good for Agriculture/ Crap for ski-ing. But we do have a few hills around us with roads above 1000ft

thanksbrian, may not be reliable, but one to look out for. The continued cold is good for the health of the snow which fell last week.

Looking at the charts it does look like there may be a threat of snow 1 week from today - a long way off and a lot of changes to come though - just so long as the temps stay down for my trip out on 4th March!!!

And I need clear roads on the 5th!!!

me too, but it's better than gazing anxiously at acres of grass, as you get to places where it should be all white!

Totally agree - looking at a few forums that deal with the weather and weather model watching it does look like there is to be some wintry weather for the UK that should also push temps down in the ALPS. It all looks really good for the following weekend in terms of snow and skiing currently - I am looking forward to seeing how it all pans out.

conditions are going to be fantastic until well into April. You'll see. I had a dream.... as good as most long range forecasts. Glad I'm off to the Alps tomorrow; it's far too cold here in this perishing wind.

Just saw BBC weather on countryfile. Looks like there is a good chance exposed coasts could see some significant white stuff from Monday onwards

That would be ironic. Trapped at Newcastle airport, unable to get to the Swiss Alps whilst also missing the skiing an hour and half away at Yad Moss.
I would be so angry

dan100, current GFS forecast is for approximately 70cm of new snow from Wednesday to the following Monday (which happily coincides with a trip to Les Arcs for me). Wednesday and Friday look like being snowy days, with colder than average temperatures through until Monday when it will warm up for a day or two.
