Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Which resort - last weekend in April ?

Going to sneak in a weekend 28-30 April. Have been looking at previous threads to get feel for whet to expect so late on and am prepared to take the gamble if only cause I'll get to check out where we'll be staying next year.

So the plan is to have 3 days between Saas Fee and Zermatt (staying in Saas Fee to keep costs down!). Obviously conditions vary from year to year but generally speaking what sort of conditions could we realistically expect on those dates - anyone have any experience skiing that late there ? e.g. is it often possible to ski back down to resort ? In Zermatt, are all 3 main areas open or just the Klein Matterhorn section ? Could we ski into Cervinia ?

Thanks for any info you can provide ....

Last season Saas-Fee shut the weekend of 22nd-23rd April - not entirely sure why as they should have had enough snow down to Maste 4. I was in Zermatt part of the week leading up to the last weekend; the Kleiner Matterhorn was the only area open in Zermatt (Gornergrat had shut the previos weekend), but you ski into Cervinia. From what I remember the runs to resort were shut, but almost everything higher up was open.

There are 3 timetable pages covering the 3 Zermatt sectors, which show you which lifts are scheduled to run on the dates you'll be there. 2 of the 3 sectors (Gornergrat and Rothorn) will be shut from 23 April:

It's highly unlikely that you'll be able to ski back to the resort from the sector which will be open (Furi-Schwarzsee-Klein Matterhorn), but it doesn't matter. 95 per cent of the skiing up there is above 2000m, and the best of it will be on the glacier.

easiski, hadn't really considerd that. Started reading the thread but don't have time to go through the whole 27 pages!

I can't get away for a whole week and can't get away for any of the weekend 22/23 April. Might be able to swing Wed -Sat if accommodation available for part week, do you know if this is possible? Would be for me and one or two others ...

I think there's a good chance of your timings fitting in with a few early part of week-ers. If I remember right they're leaving on the Tuesday, check with Admin for the full details.
