Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

How does price vary across the season?

Hi all,

Got a party of 4-5 looking for a week's trip late March, budget is tight and not helped by the weak pound.

Was wondering how to play it with regards to getting a good rate - there's clearly a dance you can do with the package companies, I just want to know if anyone knows the rules(!)

Are we better to lock a price in early, or given we're asking for low-season and we're pretty open to options could we leave it to the week before and pick up a bargain?

In short, how does the cost of booking a trip vary across the season? What are the main contributing factors and when can you get a good idea of how the pricing game is likely to play out for the season you're in?

@GnarFly, if you are flexible then leave it until days before, especially if you’re not fussed about location. Caveat - if it’s great late season snow then you may miss out.

Also who knows what Brexit May throw at us, you may need a visa and that can take time to get in place.

Also 4/5 is a consideration, 4 can be easy (2 doubles) whereas 5 can be harder to accommodate.

My take on the prospect / just get some cheap flights and transfer tickets booked now and get yourselves an air b&b asap and avoid tour operators. Also go high and with a lot of north facing slopes, late March can be either great or a slush fest depending where you are going....look at Val Thorens, Chamonix and Ischgl.....or maybe the EoSB?

Regards pricing - avoid school holidays and you’ll be ok, hit them and it’s price hikes and queues.

Last minute TO means Friday before you fly and flight seats disappear faster than accomodation.

You can sit there and be warching a choice of 10 resorts and suddenly they vanish as the last seats to Salzburg or GVA sell. For 5 people its high risk. 2 2s maybe.
