Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Looking for feedback on a new ski coaching course

For several years our Premium private lessons included a 4 hour lift pass (30 minutes warm up, 90 mins coaching, 30 video review and 90 practice) but we found it rare that people actually went back out and practiced. Usually was a case of lack of time rather than desire so we pulled the extended pass and now offer a 2 hour pass for privates to save some cost. I would say roughly 1/3 of our private clients come in early to warm up before meeting with the coach...

In which case I think this sits very nicely in between your private lessons and your longer/larger group sessions.

@skimottaret, I can see them on the calendar if I click on show more rolling eyes so we'll call that user error whilst being on snowheads when I should have been working Embarassed

Chatting to Sue she's thinks its a good idea too but having seen the current dates alas the first few we couldn't make them since they're weekends, and friday 21st will be out too, so we'll keep an eye out for any other ones.

@djf, Actually it is a Google Calendar issue, I looked into it when you said you couldn't see it... Turns out the agenda view we use only auto displays upcoming clinics when there is a clinic in the current month. Annoying but I cant see how to fix it...

No worries I am sure we will see you two soon Smile

@skimottaret, I missed this thread previously so didn't comment but love the look of the new format. My girlfriend is signed up for the Improver course on the 10th Nov, and while I've been tempted to book a course for a while I couldn't find anything similar to the Improver format but for a level 6/7. This hits the nail on the head, so will definitely be looking to sign up at some point.

@skimottaret, I’ve only just come across this thread but, as you know, I’ve already signed up for one of your new clinics on 21/12. They would seem to be perfect for someone like me - who has a limited budget for ski coaching but likes to improve/maintain their overall level of technique as much as possible. snowHead

Have booked on for the new mid week date in November. Glad to see another one on there as I couldn't make the others, I'll keep my eye out for December too Smile

Out of interest how will it work, will I come along with things I want to work on or you do you guys go "You look like a metronome so we need to work on......." ? I know you've seen me ski quite a bit and I think you'll be better positioned to know the underlying things I need to go through so would rather the latter if that's an option.

@djf, As they don't have a fixed menu so to speak we will do a bit of both. If you come with something you want to work on we will try to focus on that but sometimes what people think they need to work on and what they actually need to work on are two different things wink On the other hand people who have done a fair bit of training like yourself usually have a clearer understanding of their own skiing and are further along in the stages of learning and we can be more narrow in focus and work together using more advanced teaching styles to jointly to get you to where you want to get...

I'm coming along with something Rob says I need to work on, namely making turns to the right. Toofy Grin I can't cope with going round in circles any more...

 You know it makes sense.

Thanks @skimottaret, that should be an interesting mix. For me I feel that my body position is wrong but also I really struggle once things get chopped up. However, I also know I’m fixed on one sort of turn shape and that I need to become more varied in my Skiing. Look forward to trying out the new format as well as seeing you again @Hurtle if you’re on our one Smile

My girlfriend had a fantastic day yesterday on the improver course with @rob@rar - she’s been raving about it ever since. Big thumbs up!

Wanted to give my feedback too for last week's tune-up session, I thought the new format worked really well. It was close to a private lesson but with extra time and extra video feedback, being able to practice, see, practice see was very helpful. How you kept track of what you set us I don't know but you managed to keep us on point and working on the area you thought we needed to. We certainly benefited from you knowing our skiing well from previous sessions and it was great to go off script from a type of skills/performance course. I also like the fact you retain the social side of meeting people on the breaks.

I was very pleased with the result and think I had a couple of big "Ahhh" moments. Interestingly rob@rar didn't work on the body position aspect directly, instead he concentrated on when weight is transitioned, leg extension/softening and how we can blend turns. All of these added together to make me feel considerably more stable and not worry about chopped up snow. In reality the same could have happened in a private session but not in one of the other clinics unless we were on that aspect.

I think the duration worked well this time of year because after lunch it was just too busy and add on being lethargic (my fault for having the burger) we were ready to go home. I suspect quieter months the slope would still be good in the afternoon.

If I was going to recommend a process for new people joining - if you've got the funds / time then I'd still say, go through the skills clinics build up all the basics and then supplement with Tune-ups/Privates to nail any adhoc aspects. If you want to concentrate on one thing or you're more limited on what you can select then the tune-ups would be a good fit. Personally we've done all of the skills now, so we'll still dip in on these but I think it will be performance/tuneups for 2019 then take our BASI #1 .......

Thanks again guys Very Happy

@Handy Turnip, glad she enjoyed the session. She made some very solid changes in her skiing, which was nice to see happen so quickly.

@djf, many thanks for the feedback, it’s really helpful to know how the new format is being received.
