Poster: A snowHead

Hoping someone can help me.
Been a bit of a sparse season in NZ, and because of that I need a new snowboard . I'm in the UK for a few days in January then heading to Austria, and then heading back to the land that time forgot.
Can't get a new board in NZ at this time of year, because the only stock left in shops is sized for hobbits.
So I'm thinking I could pick up a board in the UK in January. Will be in London/Brighton. From what I can find out, the retailer has to be in some kind of scheme to be able to give me the forms to get the VAT back on the board when I leave the country.
Are most retailers in this scheme? Or any advice on shops that are? 20% is a decent amount of money to get back.
Thanks

I noticed that Freeze Pro deliver to NZ free of charge; might be worth contacting them.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I’ve used the VAT refund at Snow and Rock and Ellis Brigham and nearly every high street shop do it. You’ll need to purchase the items in store and they give you a VAT refund form.
This needs to be fill in and stamped by Customs at the airport when you leave the country. They will need to see the item(s) so do this before checking in.
You won’t get 20% VAT back. The VAT refund company will take an admin fee depending on the value of your purchase. You’ll roughly get 11% back and it’ll take 4-6 weeks for them to credit you the money.

You may be able to order online & arrange to collect from store?
That way they can probably knock the vat off automatically online.
Also, is it worth the hassle if you have to pay a lot to take the board back home? + taking it from UK to Austria will be a payment & Austria to NZ?
Austria should have similar arrangements & you may be better off buying there?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@Mr.Egg, board carriage is included in the flights anyway - got a family of 4 with full quiver booked in - will definitely have a look in Austria, but not sure if prices in a resort would be more than the UK? Any good snowboard shops in Saalbach? Ideally I would like a jones mountain twin 164w to replace the one I am currently destroying.
Great helpful info, thanks everyone

@hang11, I think the item might have to be unused to get Vat refund.

That sucks! Might be worth a shot still if I can ride it for a week without damaging it and put the stickers back on it, or get the forms stamped when I fly to Austria before I've used it
Thanks all. Much appreciated.

This is not possible as the retailer has to be able to prove (to HMRC) that the item was exported outside of the UK/EU and the only effective way to do that is to have a tracker/signed-for shipping receipt (from UPS/FedEx etc) for the item.
hang11, remember that you will also be liable for any importation charges/tax levied by the NZ authorities.

@hang11, best bet is to be cheeky and ask them to discount the board to the equivalent tax free price!
