Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Family friendly resort for novice skiers in April

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello,
We are a non skiing family (2 adults +3 kids 7,10 and 11 years) about to start lessons.
I am looking to book somewhere cheap and cheerful for April as an incentive to keep us skiing.
Can anybody recommend a family friendly (quietish) European resort that will still have snow 1/4/19.
Thanks in advance

@Hodgey,
Most moderately high places still have snow at that time of the year but it will often be a bit icy first thing and slushy later depending on the altitude and the direction the slopes face together with how warm the spring is.
Also depends a bit on what kind of accommodation you want. To oversimplify Austria does pretty good guest houses and hotels France does a lot of cheap and cheerful self catering and chalet holidays.
In France the Maurienne valley has a large sleection of cheap resorts that are good for families and in my experience have had decent snow in early April. Val Cenis would be one.In Austria I would consider Galtur as small and quiet but good north facing skiing at a decent altitude . In Italy you could look at La Thuile or Pila in the Aosta. There are literally hundreds of other resorts that could suit you as well.

Andorra or even Bulgaria.

Really no need to head to a massive resort with a ton of ski runs you wont be able to use.

If France, then maybe one of the resorts in the maurienne valley.
Val Cenis, Les Sybelles, Valloire/Valmeiner, etc. - even possibly les deux alps.

You can get good room + lift pass deals on sunweb & snowtrex. Just need to make your own way there then.

The advantage of cheap Bulgaria would be you could have private lessons instead of a group lesson.
You will progress a lot quicker! So ultimately cheaper in the long run. Lessons either as a whole family, or split kids from parents, who will undoubtably pick it up quicker!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Bulgaria is too low for April.

Andorra is dull.

Ski-in-ski-out (SISO) wins every time for novices.

Go French Alps.

Bansko is usually open until late April. Went into Mid May 2 years ago.

Andorra would be perfect, but it's a bit of a gamble for April so probably not worth the risk (IMHO)
