Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Some tasty lines on K2.

Bargiel began his ski descent from the summit via the Abruzzi route (purple line) and then followed the Cesen/Basque route (green line) to Camp 3. From there he traversed to the right via Messner’s variant (pink line) and finished down the Polish route (light blue line).

@Layne, Bargiel summited K2 on Sunday 22nd July, 7:30 UK time. He immediately started descent following Abruzzi Spur (4 purple) down to the point where it joints Česen route (3 green). Then he was skiing Cesen down to C3, where he met Janusz Gołąb, his partner. Next, he got to the Messner traverse (M pink) and to the Jerzy Kukuczka, Ryszard Pawłowski route (2 light blue). As for timing- he had a break at C4 waiting for clouds to clear up. C3 was reached around 12 UK time. He got to BC after 14.

@Kuba, so 6.5 hours skiing with a break in the middle.

K2 peak is 8611m, I believe C3 is at 7300m. So that makes the descent 1311mm.

He could have done that in the 3V's at half the price Toofy Grin Toofy Grin Toofy Grin

Did he do some Apres after?

And did he do DIY or go with a TO?

So many questions....

@Layne, This was DIY (though he's got sponsors), but they hired shrepa people to handle logistics to BC. I'm not sure if any TO would offer ski option and Andrzej vision of mountaineering focuses on skiing- for example he refused participating in the polish K2 winter expedition earlier this year because he could not ski. I can imagine that proper Apres is happening at the mo in BC:) Feel free to ask if you have any specific ones- there are plenty interviews on the polish muntaineering services, happy to help.

@Layne, not quite right there. He didn't stop at C3, he skied to Base Camp at 5650m. So 3000m of vertical not 1311m!
