The lifts aee closed the locals have gone off to Mexico & SE Asia.

The price increase for the weekly Arlberg skipass is the biggest rise in Austria :
In 2018/2019 you will pay a smooth 5% more than in last season.
However, "only" increased by 2.8%, from 53 euros to 54.50 euros.

Anybody know if "Happy Valley" is going to be open next winter. I'm sure a lot of people looking to book for next winter will be interested to know, as it certainly detracted from peoples homeward journey experience last winter, ours included. My wife can't ski down the black late afternoon and she hates coming down on the gondola, so if its closed permanently we may have to move on.

You need to specify 'Austrian resorts'. There is quite a difference (700 meters to be precise) between e.g. Kitzbuhel and Lech and Ischgl...
No finance....how then do you explain the multimillion new restaurant at Gasthof Post Lech? Or the current restructuring of the Goldener Berg in Oberlech from 4**** to 5*****? Oh and how about the ambitious plans in Schröcken?
Must say I'm starting to agree we need a new Arlberg thread, you are hopeless.

Must only have become a problem 2 years ago, or was the Flexenbahn paid in cash? 😝
What is the average tenor of a commercial loan? In Australia, it is unusual to go much over 10 years; maybe in Austria it is longer, but it certainly would not be 50 years. Do you really believe that Austrian skiing will be dead in 20 or 30 years? Further, bank debt is only one of the options available for financing commercial development.

@stanton, as I said before, bank debt financing is just one of the many options used for commercial development. You have provided examples of others.
Bottom line: if the figures stack up, a financing option will be found.

All - is it feasible to take our very competent 11Y and 8Y olds to Lech and back from St Anton via the Flexenbhan?
I had a look at the map but I couldn't for the life of me work it out (it's a while since Mrs F and I have been to the Arlberg).
Is the bus service still running?

Yes it's feasible - if they can do stiffish reds. No free bus anymore from Rauz unfortunately. Get out early (first lift Galzig or Nasserein) and get moving - ideally avoid Schlindler's lift and take the one to Ulmerhutte instead to get over. Then white ring from Zuers. Personally I hate the piste run down to Rauz even more than before as its a recipe for disaster from assorted traffic from the flyboys on race replicas to the billies skidding on the ice.
