Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Nevica jackets - any good

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I know Nevica is owned by Sports Direct and that it's one of the cheaper brands of ski gear out there; but I was wondering if anyone has any recent experience of their clothes since they've been taken over by Sports Direct? There are older threads here about Nevica gear, but I wanted a more up to date assessment.

I ask because they have a Nevica Vail jacket on sale for £45; which I quite like the look of. I currently have a cheapo Dare2B Jacket which is doing me fine at the moment, but which doesn't have the zipped under arm vents or a lift pass pocket; both of which I quickly found out are handy to have.

I'm assuming that Nevica is a slight step up from Dare2B, albeit not a big one.

Lastly, I'm assuming that Mountain Warehouse brand is a step up again from Nevica. They also have one I like the look of.
cheers

Notwithstanding the quality of SD stuff just be aware if ordering on line of their returns policy. Last I looked, counterintuitively, you cant drop it back to one if the shops and you pay the postage (not unusual) but adds quite a bit to a cheap item if its wrong.

The 20k D2B stuff is pretty good stuff. I'd opt for that over Nevica. Check the Portstewart place on eBay for clearance deals.

@Awdbugga, it is not really true to say that SD took over Nevica, in the sense that the company existed with a manufacturing base. Paul Goldstein, the creator and owner of Nevica merely sold the brand to SD. In fact I picked up one of the jackets in a regular SD sale and bumped into Paul skiing in EK whilst wearing it and he was curious to have a look at what they were selling under the brand. In my view they are good value, perhaps on a par with Trespass, but i would not want to get caught in a storm.

The top of range stuff is okay for general recreational use, and good value for money with the right features. I had (have) one of the Vail jackets and only stopped using it when I switched to a shell as I run hot.

Dare2B have a nice 20k jacket on offer in their sale, with an additional 20% off at the moment, bringing it down to £56. I’ve seen it at their shop at the CF. Seems to be a well made jacket. That’s another option I was contemplating.

I ordered the 20k Dare2b Jacket in the end for £56. it was £180 when I first looked at it earlier in the year. Always pays to buy out of season and before they have just extra small and xxxlarge left. Toofy Grin

Decathlon middle-upper ranges seems pretty good. Been in storms and was fine.

Can’t say the same for my north face glove... Confused
