Nearly a down day today due to weather, though we did go for a wander and managed to snag a 850m summit with a bit of ninja navigation in the fog. The view wasn't great but the ski down was not bad, with heavy new powder over a smooth base.
Finally managed to track down the strange noises we heard on our first morning further south: snipe 'drumming'. Very bizarre.
@Teletart, the misery sticks are not mine... I will ask Rich what bindings he has.

@offpisteskiing, getting off the beaten track there! we visited Akureyri in the Summer a few years back and it’s a truly amazing and unique country. Looking forward to seeing more of the skiing! Is this a Snowheads trip or have you left them counting fish in Norway?

I don't run 'Snowheads' trips (although there are a couple of Snowheads regulars on the Lofoten 'core crew') - this is a group I have skied with a few times, including a week in Lofoten last year... Its a cool place up here, definitely some fun terrain to good at in good conditions. Spent 3 expensive days in Akureyri 10 years ago waiting for clear weather on Greenland to fly on for an exped, but we didn't unpack the ski gear as everything was packed ready for a short notice call to get to the airport. Forecast looks better for the next few days so hopefully we will get some good skiing in!

@BobinCH, forecast is OK for the rest of the week, though whether that translates to a good spring set-up depends a lot on the clouds..! The scenery is pretty damn fine, and the fish soup in Dalvik is off the charts!

As a final note, I had to fly out of Akureyri to make my connecting flight back to GVA, but the tem drove down to Reykjavik, stopping en route at a natural hot tub - looks amazing!
For reference, we stayed out in Siglufjordur - definitely the most picturesque of the 3 villages on the East coast, good eating options and lots of accommodation options too. Loads of skiing to do from nearby, though we quite often ended up driving back through one or two tunnels towards Olafsfjordur to a start point.
Olafsfjord is definitely THE central point in terms of getting to the skiing, though has far fewer eating options than Siglu or Dalvik.
Dalvik has a great swimming pool, and the café does an amazing fish soup! Feels a bit more industrial than Olafs or Siglu, but again plenty of accommodation options here, eateries slightly more limited than Siglu from what we saw...
One slight downside out here are the heli operators who seem to have free rein on pretty much any summit they want, though in fairness they did divert off a summit we were approaching at onepoint and go and drop at a nearby col. There is definitely potential to have a load of heliskiers dropped just above you though - seems a shame on the easy to access peaks when there is definitely loads of terrain that is harder to access that would be prime for them. It only really bothered us one day though.
