Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Buying my first skis

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Sorry if this has been done to death, but i would like some advice on buying my first set of skis.

I've been skiing for while now only managing one holiday a year, but that has been consistent for nearly 7 years now. It is my plan to do it each year for the foreseeable future. I have been renting and normally rent the advanced skis, but invariably they are beginner to intermediate skis at best and i get a bit peeved that im paying extra for something i'm not getting.

I also always drive to where we ski normally 3 valleys or la plagne area so haven't got worry about carriage costs on a flight.

So looking for recommendations for a decent value ski or a second hand option to look out for.

Im 172 tall, 90-95 kg (short and heavy i know). Happily ski all blues and reds and dabble in blacks if i'm feeling frisky, rarely if ever venture off the pistes as the wife isn't so keen, i like to think i'm a capable skier and i do enjoy going relatively fast. I'm assuming i should look for a stiffer ski due to my height to weight ratio.

Any advice is much appreciated.

It may depend on what you are prepared to spend.

It is always worth keeping a eye on Glisshop, who often have good discounts and intermittent special offers.

ATM. They have offers on the likes of Dynastar Speed Zone 9, Atomic Redster X7 etc

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Not going to offer advice on which skis to buy as many others on here have much more knowledge and experience than me but I suggest that you keep an eye on this shop in Italy. A couple of years ago I bought the skis that I'd wanted and been looking for for ages with about 50% off a couple of months after the season had ended. They also provided bindings fitting to my specs and IIRC only charged about twenty quid for delivery.
