Poster: A snowHead

Anyone know - does it have a walk-in A & E like you would find in a UK hospital?
If not - does anyone have any experience of accessing emergency care in the night when it's something not serious enough for an ambulance? Anyone tried this SOS Médecins service to get a doctor visit?
Just planning ahead for a family member who sometimes has health problems.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Yes it does, take your EHIC card. My son broke finger last summer & they were very good

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@frejul, where will you be staying? E.g. Chamonix has a hospital with limited walk in capability.
Otherwise, my understanding is that Sallanches has a more or less “district general” ability. So a reasonable A&E and generally good mid level capabilities.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@frejul, don't forget that in France the local Doctors (GP equivalent) do a lot more and are more readily available than UK GPs (you still have to pay but use your EHIC to not pay the full whack)

@frejul, can also confirm it has a walk in A and E, took youngest there a couple of seasons ago. was recommended by the private doctor she was taken to with her leg injury, to go the following morning as the afternoon/evening can get busy with injuries.
Obviously, this only works if you can wait and it is not life threatening or in serious pain.
Was very efficient, could park right outside entrance as well, which was a bonus.

They also run a dual waiting time strategy where children get seen first, obviously serious condition get priority

Yes, they do. The ladies on the desk are very kind indeed and help with all forms....even print out colouring sheets in the for kids. They have a bilingual administrator that also deals with all medical insurance. Hubby has an intimate knowledge of this hospital having spent 4 weeks there in intensive care and the chest ward one summer. If he'd presented in the UK with the symptoms he had, he would not be here now. Sepsis within 12 hrs of symptoms starting that led to septic shock, it was touch and go but they were great. If you are in Flaine do look at the local Cabinet Medical - https://www.flaine.com/en/winter/emergencies-medical-flaine-forum-medical-center-421-16--16-details-438.html - or pop into the one in Les Carroz - https://hiver.lescarroz.com/commerces-et-services/1/140649-maison-medicale.html - they are excellent. The one in Les Carroz is now in a new facility with excellent doctors and x-ray facilities. You have to drive right past it if you are driving from Flaine. You do have to queue but everyone knows who is next and you will only get bumped if a serious injury comes in. I cannot speak highly enough of the level of care we have accessed in France. They have always been very kind with the kids as well. I got an on-the-spot strep test for one last summer when they had ulcerated throats, you don't get that in the UK. OK, will stop typing now as could go on for hours, as am so grateful to the Les Carroz team and the Drs in Sallanches.
