Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Steamboat or Winter Park

Has anyone got any advice on these two. Trying to decide where to go in Colorado for Jan next year, and these look to have some of the better early season snow records. Has anyone been to both?

Cheers

first, as a disclaimer, i am employed as an instructor at winter park. january is certainly not "early season". either resort will have great snow. this december we had 144 inches of snow. year to date over twenty feet.

steamboat is a slightly larger town. historically we get slightly more snow. WP is the home of north americas #1 rated bumps. if you enjoy moguls......we have every shape, size on a wide variety of pistes.

i have said it many times. i live and work in winter park because it is my favorite spot in colorado.

Think you will have a great time whereever you go. I have been to Steamboat three times and loved it, would go back now if I could face long-haul flight with young kids! One of the reasons I like it, is that there are not many Brits or weekend skiers as it is a good 3-4 hour drive out of Denver. If not driving you can get a flight to nearby local airport.

If you go, try and stay in newer uptown as it is closer to ski area. Downtown is older and has more shops etc, but requires bus to slopes. These are free and regular though.

Also take a trip out to Strawberry Park and have a swim in outdoor hot springs.

I got back from Winter Park a few weeks ago and absolutely loved it. Great especially if you like the bumps. Oh and it snows........a lot.
