Spoke to someone I know at the. Airport who confirmed after investigation that the flight was officially cancelled and then reinstated which is unprecedented . They gave me a claims advice form , reckon I’m still in for a fight.

I am fully with you @Pamski, that there is a special place in hell for people who willingly jeopardize flights. I was on the steps of a delayed plane en route to Frankfurt to connect on the 1 flight per day to Almaty when the women behind me realized she had left her laptop at security and demanded to have her bag removed. 90% of people on that flight were on connecting flights. Cabin crew made her wait at the bottom of the steps in the rain which helped my HUGE RAGE. I made my flight with no more than 2mins to spare and I ran from passport control to the plane.

Ah, similar happened at Bristol to me - security said the handbag could not be brought to the passenger and the passenger, sitting in the row in front of us had to offload including baggage. Ryanair must have leant on airport and the handbag was brought to the passenger - security risk nil as it had been scanned - I am sure cards verified id to passport. Even better we then jumped the queue on the taxiway to catch up time.
Anyway a week later on the way back we met the said passenger and they had had the handbag nicked off the beach ......
Cannot just be ski trips - had no shows post check-in at Gatwick for ski trips but also a neighbour "confessed" to be so engrossed in post check-in shopping with a friend they missed the flight on a non ski trip.

I made it! I'm in Chamonix! Normally do it in 6 hours door to door (admittedly hand luggage inly) , but 13 this time.
There were very loud and obnoxious drunks on the plane (fortunately the people beside and in front of me were lovely), the biggest queue for passport control I've ever seen there, and absolute carnage in baggage reclaim - took 45mins to get my bag.
But transfer was smooth sailing with the ever-excellent Mountain Dropoffs, despite the delay, and now I'm off to find my mate in a bar and have a very large glass of wine!
I hope everyone else made it safely.

@fixx, glad you made it. I've now been sat on the plane in LBA for about 3 hrs. Looks like Sunday was no safer bet then Saturday!
Of course I've missed my transfer now. Fingers crossed on how amenable the 'transfer company will be.
Could easily have arranged for someone leaving Chx to bring me a car to GVA if i'ld known.
Anyone driving GVA to Chx this evening??
Looks like I'll get in about 4.30-5pm now.

For every success there are failures; in my case, two, to be exact!
17:50 on thurs from BRS to GVA cancelled so immediately rebooked and managed to grab the 06:00 for yesterday. This was then cancelled on Friday evening and the subsequent rebooking chaos meant the next free flight was Monday. Managed to book a Swiss flight from Gatwick this afternoon. Much sadness and hassle, 2 days chopped from my trip but finally on my way.

EJ app was super efficient and it also let me change my return flights for free - shifted to give myself an extra day. Take the human out of the equation seems to be working for them.

@Sharkymark, snap, my EJ Friday flight was cancelled. It was only for a weekend away so no point trying for Saturday, just shoved everything back 7 days and going this weekend instead, EJ app allowed me to do this easily

@Jonny996, we were also on a EJ cancelled Edinburgh flight on Friday. All changed on the app with little hassle and now going next week instead after moving some work commitments. Hotel in Val d’Isere has been good and just moved the booking.
