polarmissile, Welcome to snowheads, but would you mind easing off on the bold next time! We are a very polite community and don't do loud!
As to your question, I skied from the top of the glacier to Tignes car park on May 2nd last year and the snow was fine. I think Val Thorens will still be open that week too. It may be a bit sketchy, but there will be snow I think.

2 good european choices. If prepared to go long haul I suspect the high rocky and california resorts have long seasons.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

polarmissile,
If you fancy a trip to Canada, Sunshine Village is above Banff and is open until 22nd May 2006. Current base of 170cm

As dan100 says, if you're willing to fork out for it (this depends upon what you meant by decently priced !), then somewhere like Mammoth in Californa would be fantastic for guaranteed snow (YES, even at the beginning of May!). Average snow depth during the last week of April is 348cm at the top and 234cm at the bottom (even the lower slopes figure would satisfy many European resorts at the height of the season).
European wised if something slightly cheaper is what you're looking for then: Tignes, Val T and Flaine are very good bets.

I should think the Stubai Glacier in Austria will still be open - I believe they still open 365 days a year.

Castleford? (it's local, they speak English, guaranteed snow, shops nearby, and you get to stay at home!)
Oh, and welcome, polarmissile,

Val Thorens has their 'Dutch Week' that week - guaranteed to make the place lively, and there's a relatively good chance of decent spring snow.

Yeh I think Tignes and Val T are the two choices...
I suspect the link from Tignes - Val d 'Isere might be shut by that time ofyear...still leaves plenty to have fun on though. Should be some good deals on accom.
