Poster: A snowHead
|
Though I would share that I recently learned that Whatsapp have introduced a new feature allowing the user to send their live location to a contact or group (for a pre-determined period) so they can be tracked on a map. Found this very handy when we were skiing last week to know the whereabouts of loved ones and friends that were scattered all over Fiss-Serfaus. It also gave me a certain level of 'peace of mind' when skiing alone on piste while snowing. It didn't seem to affect iphone's battery life when running all day.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@Ozboy, How do you do that, I can't see how you would do it? Whilst clicking all the menu options I did find out that you can now get your whatsapp on your computer, though.

@karin, tap the PLUS at the bottom left when typing a message and choose ‘Location’ followed by ‘Share Live Location’ and then choose the length of time you wish to share your live location.
You will need to update the app if you don’t see this feature.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Can't see a PLUS anywhere, and also can't see how to update or find out if it is the most up to date version. I'm not that bothered, though, just curious.

@karin,
Took me a while to find it.
In IOS it goes.
Open WhatsApp
Go to Chats
Either pick an existing chat or start a new one.
In the bottom left corner is the plus sign, tap that which brings up a menu including Location as an option
Tap Location
Location screen opens
Tap "Share Live Location"
menu choices 15 minutes, 1 hour or 8 hours, tap required and then tap right arrow

On Android you need go to the attach paperclip in the 'type a message' box and select location. You can select live location there.

It can't really show you what run they are on though? Just shows a standard Google map location

Neat - thanks for sharing
Unfortunately it appears my teens are too cool for WhatsApp so don't actually use it! Otherwise would be helpful for me when I'm trying to work out what part of resort they are in
