Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Shortcut from A40 to Aix les bains query?

We are going from Ireland to VT at Easter. Driving down Friday and staying in aix Les Bains. Plan taking A39 then on to A40 at Bourg en Bresse. If I take junction 10 from A40 I can take D991 to Aix Les Bains. I'm thinking that avoiding Geneva area on good Friday might be worthwhile. Has anyone any experience of this route and would it be wise/unwise? We will drive straight up to VT then on sat morning early.

Driving down from Calais to VT there's no need to go anywhere near GVA.

Is the D991 the back road through Belley and via Tunnel du Chat? If so we use this most times we drive down. Saves a few quid in tolls and fuel, also it's a nice change after 500miles of motorway!

 Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@Roger C,

Hi roger. I just looked at your suggestion. Looks good. I was thinking coming down east of the lake but I might try your way. Thanks.

I would be tempted to take the D1508 to Annecy then south on a bit of autoroute to Aix les Bains. The road down the lake is pretty but it is quite long. The D1504 goes through the Belley valley, it is quiet except for trucks, but quite long. Depends how much of a hurry you are in.

 Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I can second the route down the D991 through Belley, it’s a really good route and avoids the risk of traffic around Lyon airport and as @Roger C says, avoids the tolls.
