Poster: A snowHead
|
I'm just doing a bit of pre-trip forum reconnaissance and wonder if anyone can offer some help.
A party of 5 of us are due to go to Cervinia in 3 weeks time. Can anyone who has been tell me something about which lifts we should be heading for. For info, our hotel (Hotel Compagnoni) seems to be nearest to the Cretaz chair lift, but would we be smarter taking the (what appears to be) longer, uphill walk to the Breuil Plan Maison gondola? Can we access the 2nd stage of the Plan Maison lift from the piste, allowing us to go up the Cretaz first?
All help is much appreciated.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

If you get the chair lift from the town centre up to Plan Torette, take the next chair lift up from there, then you can ski down to Plan Maison, the top station of the gondola.
You won't want to walk from town to the Plan Maison base station wearing/carrying equipment, it's uphill and about 100 stairs. You can rent lockers at the top station and do the walk/climb in your comfy shoes if you'd rather.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Agree with @queenie pretty please, Cretaz lift is the easier option.

@MAX_Chase, yes as others have said, the gondola is unpleasant and the chairlift a queue-free delight.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Christmas 2016 you couldn't get above Plan Torette on the 2nd chair due to poor snow conditions. We had to schlep up to the gondola every morning to get to Plan Maison. Don't punish yourselves

Wonderful. Thank you, people. Cretaz it is.
Whilst I'm here, any recommendations for restaurants (in town and on the piste) or apres-ski venues?

Grivola in town is a nice restaurant. If you are with Crystal buy one of their €5 discount cards, it will pay for itself with one visit there. Gives food discount at many of the mountain restaurants too.
Haven't had a bad meal anywhere on the hill in Cervinia. Apres ski wise, St Anton it ain't.

@MAX_Chase, up the mountain the restaurants at Plan Torrette and Chalet Etoile are both excellent, Etoile a bit more expensive and worth booking as often busy.
