Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Vipec brakes, width issues

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Quick query r.e. some problems a friend has been having with Vipec Brakes.

They are last seasons model (16/17), brakes are 120 mm approx I think (they measure 135 mm if measuring from outside of black plastic) I have the same brake on a 110 mm width ski and have no issues.

The ski is a Soul 7 (approx 106mm width). The brakes clear the ski fine when being engaged by the heel, however when locking off at the top the mechanism appears to force the arms to contract slightly. Then, if the boot is removed the brakes catch on the ski as the arms are in this "squeezed" position. I've had a quick look and I'm not sure what to do about it, stretching the arms etc probably not a goer as they would still get squeezed at the top.

Any suggestions for modifications/quick fixes?? Cheers

@hollando, Brakes can be bent outwards using quite a lot of force and a great deal of care. I use a narrow jawed vice to clamp the part you don’t want to bend, so in this case the angled section, and then slide a section of narrow section piping over the end of the arm, up to the bend point. Then making sure you are applying force in the correct direction, firmly move the pipe. This will bend the brake arm a little at a time. You probably only need 2-3mm. I’ve widened brake arms 16mm overall this way, so 8mm per side.

Alternatively, you can chamfer the inside edge of the plastic ends of the arms so that they slide over the edges more easily.
