Does anyone have any contacts in Europe for organising a wedding in a ski resort? google is helpful but we need some “on the ground” advice. Maybe someone who has done this already. This is for my son and his fiancée and there is not a limitless budget. Ideally using Geneva as that is the most accessible airport for every day of the week traffic. Many thanks

Ski2 in Champoluc have a sideline in weddings https://www.skiweddings.com/
I can’t tell you anything about the weddings, but we’ve used them for a holiday, and they were excellent. As a company they get excellent reviews all round. Champoluc is a lovely little resort, and comes with all the benefits of Italian good value, friendly hospitality and amazing food.

I'm not sure if it is possible for a non French Resident, when we were looking into it even as French Residents it was easier to come back to the UK for the Wedding partly due to the bureaucracy of getting wed in France if we the ceremony weren't in your home Region.
What might be easier is to have the Official bit done in the UK and then have a Blessing done in resort.

I looked into getting married in France, and I think Marcellus is right. I think you have to have lived for at least a month in the commune where you want to marry. The way to get around it is to do the civil bit in the UK and then have a big ceremony/ party in France..someone I met recently had a French unofficial official person do vows etc on the day, so it all looked and felt like the real thing, but the couple had actually married in their local Register Office back in England a week before.

@Scatt, Why a ski resort? Any in particular? We got married in Switzerland because that's where we live and had our reception party in Champoluc as the Mrs' Father/family come from there.
I only ask because the logistics are clearly more difficult and more difficult for guests, not all of whom might want some of their holidays devoted to your son's wedding.
Otherwise, no idea re the civil things, my brother in law had his civil paperwork done in the UK then a reception party in Chamonix. He managed to find an English priest? / ?vicar who did a blessing in the English church in Cham.
Then you just need to decide on venue, and throw a party.
I always get the impression that using an organiser just adds cost to something that isn't very hard to do yourself - just takes organisation.

Looking at the links above, I and @Perty thought, it's confirmed you have to be resident of the Commune you're getting married in for 40 days!

Yep - got married in Chamonix myself and I'm a resident of the UK so had to get married legally at home first due to French regulations (Italy is a bit different - you can also get legally married there). I have an uncle who is a priest though so he could fly out and do the religious bit for us that was all registered with the church etc.
I used a wedding planner in Chamonix (Jody who owns www.montblancweddings.com) to help with the priest side and to recommend florists and hairdresser, but otherwise we booked the restaurant ourselves and I had a website up and going with accommodation recommendations because we knew the resort well-ish.
We used a chalet we'd stayed in the winter previous to hold a bbq on the next day and the chalet owner was able to source a caterer for it.
PS - it's a super thing to do, people remember it for years to come, and if they don't or can't come, they won't, your son just needs to be prepared for close friends not being able to make it and not take it personally.
Feel free to PM me any questions.

Many thanks for everyones replies really appreciate them. Yes they realise that the legality of the ceremony in France is an issue and they will probably do that in the UK.
They are both Ski nuts and it’s a ski resort or nothing .....all friends (150!!) are onboard!!😃😃

Its definitely easy to arrange a wedding in Italy, so if there is an Italian ski resort that they like I’m sure it would be lovely.
I got married in Malcesine on Lake Garda and as far as I remember you only had to be there 2 days before the ceremony to complete all the relevant paperwork (it really was a while ago though). This was the ‘official wedding’ so no need to have a civil ceremony in the UK.
We also found that Italy was very good value for money! The food and wine was good and didn’t break the bank and we also found that there were travel and accommodation options to suite all budgets.
Hope they have a wonderful wedding.

With 150 potential guests, you have some serious bargaining power there with accommodations. Don't let some destination wedding planner enjoy that.

We were married in in 2005, at Antagnod Comune in the Champoluc valley, having arranged the whole thing through Ski 2 (as mentioned by Perty). Ski 2 were as helpful as it is possible to be, offering plans to meet any size of budget, any size of group, and as many or as few as additional features as you could wish for. As I recall, we needed to be in Italy for 3 days prior to the wedding ceremony, but I could be wrong. I'd recommend calling Ski2 for a chat, they are a wonderful and very friendly outfit. And as for the setting, we were married by the mayor of the Ayas valley in a glorious wooden mountain lodge, with panoramic views of the Monte Rosa. Champoluc has some great restaurants, lovely hotels, and fab skiing, so was good for the non skiers who accompanied us. Our best wishes to your son and fiancee!

Thank you again for so much information everyone has been unbelievably helpful.
They have been speaking to a number of venues and yes you are quite right about the “event organisers” their quotes for their assistance is very hefty indeed.
I’m hopeful now that they have enough info to make some significant inroads. Thank you once again!!
