This is meant to be a conversational rather than confrontational type of post.
I was on a lift today and saw two blokes standing below - one in reasonable ski wear but the other had no gloves on (guess temp was around minus 8 plus some wind chill.). The no gloves bloke was obviously suffering, squishing his hands, which were so pink that from a distance I wasn't sure they weren't artificial, between his legs, armpits etc. Meanwhile his mate was dancing around videoing him and howling with laughter. Drunk? Impossible to tell from that distance but possibly.
I skied around for another hour and came across them again on a piste - I now could see that the no gloves bloke had no outer wear whatsoever - perhaps just a jumper and leggings. He couldn't ski either, snow ploughing on an almost flat part.
I'm curious about how they got so far, at least 3 lifts to get to where I first saw them, without one of the lift operators stopping them - is there a duty of care or are people entirely responsible for their own stupidity? I'm thinking of the UK snow domes where not wearing gloves isn't allowed and they are no where near as cold as it was today.
I suspect he may well have frost bitten fingers - even in my gloves I felt chilly at times - but I hope he's OK and has learnt a valuable lesson.

Maybe he dropped his gloves off a ski lift and they were looking for them? Doesn't explain the lack of other outer wear though .....

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I'm probably being over-charitable. It's a fault I have! If he had no outers on at all then maybe it was for a bet/forfeit. Either way it's stupid.

Possibly a bet along the lines of "You don't need all that fancy gear to go skiing, I could go skiing like this......". I'm not sure lifties have the power to stop people being idiots, it would be a full time job, and pretty sure of their facts before acting.
The only place I've seen duty of care in force is on back country access gates, where you aren't allowed out without the appropriate equipment.
In terms of idiots, I've seen someone skiing in a kilt. I dread to think what it was doing to his knees, let alone other parts

@Scamper, Are you perchance in Obergurgl? Saw a guy matching the description there on Friday hurtling head over heels for about 200m down through trees and saplings and knee deep powder and eventually landing on a blue piste. Salopettes, a blue cotton hoody and no gloves, picks himself up, dusts himself down and skis away. Saw him about 2 hours later still coated in powder and hands blue with cold trying to do 180s off the back of the closed top station of the Bruggenboden lift and landing on the blue path below. Him and about three equally dim pals. One of these times I really wished I'd had a gun. It would have been a pleasure to have emptied it into them!!!

@robboj, no, this was les arcs, your guy sounds positively talented compared with mine - I'm guessing when I'd first seen him he's fallen as he wasn't on his skis, and the second time he was going so slowly he may as well have taken them off and walked - would have kept him warmer, at least!

I was once taken out on a narrow busy path in bad gastein, by an incompetent Dutchman with no gloves , whilst skiing with an instructor. He came off much worse than me, withbadly cut hands.
The instructor called the police on him.

@Scamper, Gloves and ski jackets are pretty much optional - the critical issue is whether or not he was wearing a helmet?

In Canada the lifties won't let you go up in insufficient gear when it's cold. But that's just Canadians I guess

Dunno about duty of care, but the only time I saw any 'officialdom' on a slope say anything to anyone was one freeze your socks of day in Les Arcs when I saw a lifty reminding parents, even of well and suitably clad kids, that small people would suffer more than adults and they advised breaks for small children to be taken more often than on other, less cold, days. I know on some blue sky days it can get very warm in ski gear, but even so I am always astonished to see folks skiing only in jumpers on their top halves as there is shade on every mountain, and most shade is still cold! Brrrrr - ski jacket and gloves for me, all the time!
