Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Low-Profile Helmets

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Can anyone recommend a good low profile helmet?

I just got the Bern Watts in the post but I'm probably going to have to return it. Whilst it's low profile on the top, in large (my normal size) the shell is absolutely enormous in width to accommodate pretty thick lining/padding. Worse still, my head tends to roast when riding so I almost always have the lining taken out but with the Watts, the ear pads and EPS dial to tighten it are both built into the lining not the helmet so you can't have the helmet with earpads/EPR but without paddingand because the lining is so thick, the helmet is enormous with it taken out and wobbles around loads.

So what I'm looking for is a pretty simple black low-profile helmet with no/easily removable lining and can be worn head + shell (no lining/beanie).

Any ideas?

I have a Bolle one which was the most 'low profile' model I could find in the shops when I bought it. Might be worth a scan of their website to see. Obviously try before you buy etc.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

The GIRO Range Mips fits the bill in terms of the low profile - don't know how easy the lining is to remove though. It contours differently to usual dial ones, and has plenty of ventilation - my head usually gets hot, but I've been fine in this one.

If your head is getting too hot, don't use a black helmet, there's a good reason that solar panels are black to absorb more heat from the sun.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

The sweet protection ones seem to be lower profile than most I tried.
