Off to Meribel in a few days. It is one of the groups birthday while there so I am looking for recommendations on where to book.
We are a middle aged group that enjoy local/European food in the mid range price bracket (£20-30 for a main dish). Not looking for curry or pizza.
Thanks in advance.

Are you looking for lunch or dinner, on the piste or in resort?

Hi Steph, drove past the road to Villalurin on Monday and there's still a sign saying road closed at st Laurent de cote. What's going on there?

@Upsidedown, We're staying near Parc Olympique. I guess that's a bit of a trek.

Bit of a Hike yes, but could catch the bus as it stops just 20 m from the restaurant in Village ? The good lady catches often to get home when she doesn't fancy Lapin piste home. Not sure how late it runs .

Four of us had a good meal in 'la Gallette' a few weeks ago. About 150m up the road on the right from the escalator. Not sure how wide the menu is, we were (3 out of 4) in shape for tartiflette; and it was good.
Don't go Wednesday, it'll be full of seasonaires being harmless but loud!

@andy1234, the road is closed until further notice as the whole rockface 6km along that road is ready to go. That side of the hill was really badly hit by landslides and avalanches over the NY and is still too fragile to risk driving along. Trees coming down on a daily basis and massive boulders. We've had helicopters out with geologists, engineers and surveyors looking at it but it's going to be a big expensive job.

@Mike-H, Chez Kiki is very good.Quality French and local cuisine especially if you like steak. Le Cepe is pricey but wonderful value for money and outstanding food. You could go into the forest by torchlight to Le Clos Bernard up near altiport. Aux petits oignons, Igloo good for larger groups. Upstairs in Le Refuge.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Le Close Up is new this year and has become an instant favourite after 11 seasons here. Great food, reasonable prices and an amazing magic show to finish.
Also highly rate Le Cepe (but pricey) and Le Martagon down in Raffort.

+1 for Le Cepe and Le Martagon. You can get the free bus to either of these and they run in the evening. We were at Le Cepe at Christmas and it was wonderful. Not as pricey as we have found before as they did a 3 course deal which happened to include the items were wanted. The soups are amazing!

@steph, thanks for the info. Love that road as an occasional alternative down to Moutiers. It's got some great hairpins and scary drops though and now I can understand why it's closed given what you've said.

Le fromagerie in the centre of Meribel is very nice too - probably a 5-10min walk.
Was around €25 for a Raclette from memory.

Shout out for Evolution which is your local if you are staying near the Parc Olympique. British run, varied menu and generally good service.
Igloo is great but mainly for pizzas.
For 13 people, if you want an amazing meal for good money, book a couple of taxis with Gtaxi and head round to La Tania for dinner at the Farcon. Best value michelin star grub you'll find, well priced wine list and an amazing, locally inspired menu. You will not be disappointed.

I would thoroughly recommend the 26 Euros menu at La Croix Jean Claude in les Allues. You can catch a bus (A) to Les Allues from the Chaudanne or Meribel Centre.
