Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi,

I’m new here. Went skiing for the first time last year in Borovets with the girls and loved it.

Going to Bansko in a few weeks with my teenage son (who has skied a few times now with school - to Austria)

We have started using our local dry ski slope (Urdd centre at Llangrango) weekly since around October to learn to snowboard and have hired both ski and snowboards (and lessons) for our holiday to Bansko.

Just wanted to say hi and say how much o enjoy reading the forum (lurked for a while)

@Lou1,
Welcome to Snowheads. I think there are a couple of guys from South Wales on here. I’m from North Wales (Barmouth originally). FYI you’ve mis spelt Llangranog. I went to the Urdd centre at Glan Llyn, Bala when I was a kid. Great fun kayaking, but no ski slope.

Hi @Lou1, I’m originally from Llanelli but live in Cardiff now. Love the Ski Welt & was in Soll at the beginning of January. Off to Serre Chevalier on Saturday. My friend’s children have been to the Urdd center with school & have loved having a go on the dry slope! Enjoy your trip to Bansko 😀

A girl in my very straight-laced grammar school (Cardiff High) - and one of the goodiest goody two shoes in the school at that - got pregnant at the Urdd Centre in Llangranog at 15 in the 1960s. Turned out to be twins. Story has a happy ending - the young parents got married when she turned 16 and lived happily ever after. Little Angel

From South Wales...
Off to Bansko myself - but in March.
I assume you are going Feb school half term.
The main gondola queues can be horrendous that time of year!

If weather permits then it may be worth paying for a taxi up to the slopes.
Once your up the mountain, things are better.

If your going with Balkan Holiday or staying in Kempinski or another top hotel, you may get lucky with VIP pass that allows you to use the shorter Gondola queue.
Feel free to ask anything Bansko related - Ive been a few times & quite familiar with the resort.

 So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Hi,

Yes we are going in half term. Booked with Balkan and have some lessons booked so hoping we may get the pass.
Did Borovets last year which I really enjoyed, but thought I’d try Bansko this year as I’d heard good things (except the gondola que)

I’d really like to try some of the Euro resorts but sadly have no skiing/boarding friends that are keen enough to go - so maybe a snow heads type event might be a solution next year.
Sadly I’ve visited St Anton & Chamonix in the days before I skied!

 You know it makes sense.

@Lou1,

Lots of whispers that Balkan are giving VIP/fast track passes out in Bansko for the gondola. It maybe only for those with lessons.
Pass should have an L on it if so & worth trying the fast track queue (assuming you booked everything with Balkan)

Yes, I have heard that and also read reviews on trip advisor where people have said they were getting fast track passes via Balkan. If it does happen that will be great.
The ques and the transfer time are the only things that really put me off - but the transfer time (I get travel sick) are pretty standard of most resorts I think, so nothing I can do except take lots of boiled sweets for the journey.

'taxi' (ie a man and a car) is about 10 lev each. So its paying a fiver each compared to 2 hours of queues if you cant fast track. Worth considering.....

Yes, that’s my 2nd plan - I thought I might try and find 2 more people who might be up for sharing, if we don’t get the fast track

@esaw1, nice part of the world. Some great walks around there. Mind you, my wallet's still recovering from the time I bought a round at the Oxwich Bay Hotel

Born and bred South Wales, now moved away. Not surprised that Cardiff High's not got a reputation as being straight laced - it never did in my day either!

Another one from Cardiff here, although we spend all our summers in Pembrokeshire so I kind of feel that I’m a little bit from there too. X
