Poster: A snowHead

So would like to take the kids for a ski in Hemel on the main slope before we go on holiday, but right now it's crazy busy....
Does it quieten down after Feb half term or should I not bother?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Alas they're really doing a great job of marketing so they're pretty busy generally although if you can get there for opening time the slope can be quite nice.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Agree first hour after opening is OK after that it gets a bit mad (haven’t been for a year though!)

Early tuesday start at 7am is usually quiet, but not necessarily pratical for all. To be frank unless you really need a shake out prior to your trip I wouldn't bother. You take longer going up on the slow button lift than the milked out five turns coming down.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

It does quieten down then, or at least it did a few years ago when we went regularly. Christmas until Feb half term is murder.
The earlier you can get there, the better - not just because there's fewer crowds, but also because it's in much better condition.
It's quieter during school hours but if you can't do those, 8am on a Saturday is okay - usually just lessons so the "crowds" are more likely to be standing around waiting their turn or listening to their instructor than actively skiing every moment.

I took a mate who's just learning to ski there last Saturday - hell's teeth I've never seen it so busy! It took us about 20 mins to park!

Yeah, Saturday beyond about 10am.. just no. It never used to be quite that bad to park, it's definitely got worse as the years have gone by, so I can only guess it's getting busier.
Selfishly I wish someone would open up another snowdome to the west or south to take some of the pressure!

@sparklies, +1 for a fridge in the west, as it is my neck of the woods. Swindon is supposedly going ahead, so this should alleviate a lot of the queues.
with regards to parking, last time we were there just before xmas, the management was outside trying to organise it properly, and instructing the staff to park their cars at the furthest part of the car park, as several of them had parked just by the entrance.
I have taken the kids to mt Hemel several times (my girls first learnt there) as the outlaws live close by and we combine skiing with visiting the family.
but on a positive note, it just goes to show that there is still life in winter sports, no matter what the naysayers would have us believe!!

I was at the freestyle Thursday nights the last few weeks, two weeks back was dead quiet, last week was pretty busy ( although thankfully it was mostly people having lessons rather than everyone hitting the park side.
I'm off the tomorrow from 8-10pm again, would be nice to meet some fellow snowheads if any others are planning to go?

It would be brilliant if Swindon does go ahead. I'm originally from Cornwall, so really they should stick one at least in Plymouth or Exeter too!
I hope Hemel doesn't suffer financially too much if Swindon goes ahead.
