Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski Length Advice

Help required please...

I'm about to buy the Head Supershape Speeds (probably but also looking at the other Supershape models as well as the Atomic Redsters) but need a bit of advice on which to go for...

I'm 183cm, 80kg, competent/aggressive skier from a race (slalom) background. I can either get the 184s which I've found cheaper or the 177s which I'd probably have been inclined to get if it wasn't for the higher price.

Any opinions and advice? Thanks in advance

You're pretty much the same height and weight as me and I ski 184's (Volk Kendo). No problem with length at all. Might be a bit laboured on the really steep bits but that's probably more down to my laziness but the stability at speed more than makes up for that.
Someone more enlightened on your particular ski will better you I'm sure.

@otjs, I recently went a bit longer with new skis. Mine are 173cm which is my exact height and I'm almost as heavy as you (albeit female). I can't say I really notice the extra length except the stability at speed which is very nice!

In a ski like that, 177 should be plenty long enough for your 80 kg unless you really want to go insanely fast. I'm 88 kg and would still pick the 177 all day long and probably 170 if I was going to use it through slalom gates. 184 is the sort of length I use for all mountain skis 100 mm wide.
