Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I just don't understand it. What switch is it that gets flipped off in the brain, when all the warning signs are there. Skiers must learn to respect the mountains. Bravado is not big or clever.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Off-piste on your own at risk 4 is bordering on the suicidal - I wonder if because he was a Yank with their totally avalanche-controlled inbounds terrain, he just didn't understand what he was doing?

I don't know anything more about him than what was in the article, but my guess is that you are probably right.

He was from the east coast of the USA. Around here, about the only place skiers ever have to worry about avalanches is Tuckermans Ravine on Mt. Washington. This is a hike-up bowl, and only a small fraction of a percent of all east coast US skiers ever try it. Unless he spent some time backcountry skiing in the American west, there's a good chance that he utterly unfamiliar with avi danger.

Couple such inexperience with a bit of the usual young-male, nobody-can-teach-me-anything, I-can't-die attitude, and this is what happens.
