If you are heading to France and you are buying a ski pass in resort check if you have any ski passes from last year as you might be able to load them at the ski pass office. Generally if your ski pass number begins with 01-(and is not the flimsy kind) you should be able to do it, maybe online also.
I'm not sure if it's the same for Switzerland, Italy and Austria but worth remembering especially if you are coming at school holiday time and can do it online beforehand.

No, there are different systems. The main ones I've come across are Skidata 01-XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX-X and a system called Teamaccess(?) that has the format XXXXXXXXX-XXX-XXX.
But I've loaded up a card for use in a different resort and it works on the same system.
I always try and preloaded the load before arrival so I can go straight to the lift without any faff.

This morning I have loaded customers ski passes from Val d'Isère, les 2 alpes and I think 3 vallées.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

This year I tried to reload my 3valleys pass from 2017 which had "rechargeable" on it but was told I needed a new one. Not a problem really, but seemed odd.

You'll need to Register first of course.

It is important not to carry any old passes while skiing because they will stop your new one working.

@Jehu,
Did the ski pass office tell you that or was it reps or similar who told you?
Did your old cards start with 1 or 01?
