Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Matt,

Wet snow low down but lots of fresh high up
Snow turned to rain at resort level overnight but lots of snow higher up - A good 30cm at the summits apparantly. Forecast to get colder lower dowen and more snow right through the weekend...
Report issued by Toffa on Thursday 16 February 2006 at 10:25

from merinet.com

That's it, the snow has finally started to fall, and fall in great quantities too. Around 35cm of slightly wet snow has arrived on our upper runs, and the forecast is for 'abundant' amounts to fall on Friday and Saturday. Sadly the rising temperature meant during the night the snow began to fall as rain in the resort, so Meribel itself is wet and dreary today. High winds, poor visibility and delayed top lifts mean that this snow reporter is staying at home today. I'll wait until after tomorrow (when the snow should start to fall to much lower altitudes) to go and enjoy the wonderful new snow.

These conditions are a real shame for families staying in Meribel this week - but for those coming out at the weekend, the snow should be fabulous. Just bring snow chains if you are driving out....

Why when it seems to be adding 40 cm in la Rosiere across the valley and appears to be snowing hard in Courchevel (Web cam) do the snow heights not seem to be increasing ( in fact on top they went down overnight)

It does say 40-60 kph on top of la saulaire. I shouldn't be too greedy I suppose as it has added height and its still snowing - 3 weeks to go

The heights are increasing quite dramatically above 1800m. Don't forget most of the precipition fell as wet snow or rain below this level yesterday.
I have webcam pics saved from last tuesday and you can see the difference. I wouldn't worry, when this storm finally ends there will be plenty of fresh snow. Very Happy

dan100, we often get snow when other resorts don't, it's to do with our proximity to Mont Blanc. I've seen it snow in La Rosiere, when Les Arcs, only about 3 kms across the valley, has nothing.

Hey guys.

Wasn't sure if i should start a new thread. I have booked a skiing trip for myself and the misses. Going to Courchevel 1300, chalet, meals and ski pass for £199 each on the 15th of april. Such a cheap deal am now worried about the snow conditions, has anyone got an idea of the state of the snow at the moment? Predicted weather/state of snow for when we go out?

I know we are low down so the snow may be gone but was hoping for okish condition at 1850, was too expensive for my lame student teacher salary!

Thanks for your help!

Xeones, welcome to snowHead snowHeads snowHead

Should be fine at altitude. Very odd and unpredicatble weather at the moment, with snowlines fluctuating enormously. But there are still good depths higher up, so you should be ok.

Xeones,

I'm there the day after you (arriving the 16th), last year at the same the blue down to La Tania was open and very skiable all week, so I'm expecting similiar!! They build up the depth low down with canon to keep it open.

These are some pics from the same time last year:

The pic of the table is taken in La Tania on arrival day.

Traditionally there does seem to be a fair amount of snow showers around in April, last year we had fresh snow most days, inc down to teh valley floor when we arrived, so anything similiar would be good again!

regards,

Greg

Thanks PG and Greg.

You have put my mind at ease, can't wait to get out there. I have not been to Courchevel before can you recommend any nice runs, good bozzers? Staying in 1300 but I gather there is a bus that links the other levels. The cheaper the beer the better wink !

 You know it makes sense.

The red down to Le Praz is still open but starting to deteriate you may need to download via the bubble or use the ski bus - masses of skiing still higher up though and the cruisy slopes above 1650 highly recommended. La Tania blue has masses of snow on it still and is a great run first thing (can get heavy in late afternoon) - Apres ski in the Ski Lodge there is from 4 Euros a pint and it's the La Tania Charity Day on Wednesday 19th April - lots of silly games, fancy dress, live music, ski race, BBQ, Harley rides, etc. (and you can get the bus back to Le Praz 5 minutes away).
