Poster: A snowHead

Hi All,
Happy New Year!
Me and two others are going to La Thuile for a long weekend mid January and we are flying into Geneva. Does anyone know the best way to get to the resort from the airport - we also need room for one pair of skis as well as normal luggage?
Thanks in advance!

@richk, Fly to Turin, it's much easier.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

We always hire a car, works out much cheaper than any of the transfers on offer. Its only 80 miles or so to La Thuile. I think our Estate care hire in February is about £300 for the week. Rent from the swiss side and you'll get the vignette and winter tyres included. If you don't mind lots of changes on public transport you can take the Chamonix bus from the Airport, then another bus to Courmayeur, then you can take a public bus to La Thuile. There are a few companies offering transfers like the Aosta Express, but the reviews for them don't look too great.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

There is a company called Aosta express who do cheap transfers from Geneva - every hour through the afternoon. It's a set rate of 48 euros per person each way and takes 2 1/2 hours. They drop off in both Courmayeur and La Thuile. Look at their website as it has a booking online section which show all the times.

@trmacc, wow I looked at those awful reviews and you're right they look like one to avoid. We have hired a car for the past two years and found it really easy. We did Champoluc last year and Cervinia the year before and parking was free in both. The Italian motorways are really easy too.

Mont Blanc toll is only about 55euros return. If you're coming back same way always buy the the return as a single is over 40euro. Agree @ajn12345, we've always found car hire really easy, also if you've got a later flight you can ski at least the morning of your departure.

I used Aosta Express 3 years ago. It was fine. Only downside is that they sometimes make a stop in Courmayeur on the way which makes the trip longer.

I have also used Aosta Express to La Thuille with no dramas. That's not to say they haven't messed up for others but the price is very good and once in La Thuille you shouldn't need a car unless you are really set on travelling to further flung parts of the Aosta Valley like Cervinia and Champoluc (in which case you may have done better to base yourself in Aosta itself).
Courmayeur is very easy to reach by a regular bus service (about 30 minutes) and there are easily 5 days worth of skiing on the La Thuille/ La Rosiere pistes.
