Poster: A snowHead

I'm looking for someone( or more) who might fancy a trip up to Scotland this winter? I'm flexible for date and duration. I was thinking maybe a week up in Aviemore, then over to Fort William for the Nevis range possibly. Looking for someone to share an Air BnB, transport/ travel. I used to work seasons, so I'm used to sharing and house trained. Don't mind if it's skiers, snowboarders whatever, and if you fancy some easy splitboarding/ touring days all the better.

Hi Nick,
I'm interested in this, just for one week though.
I'm a snowboarder, late 40s, can do blacks but prefer reds and blues.
I have one other (complete novice) who may also be interested.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Hi mate
Yeah, a week is cool, and so is getting your mate involved if he's up for it. I'm 53 myself now ( unfortunately). I was thinking of Aviemore if that's any use to you? I've got into splitboarding, so I might do a day or two of that too depending on conditions, but riding and beers at night definitely the way I'm thinking.
I've been looking at accommodation and obviously most of it is for two or more.

Aviemore sounds good to me. Where are you based, and how will you get there? I live near Preston so it's around six hours by car.
What sort of prices have you found for accommodation?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I live in Swansea now, although I'm from Hull originally god help me. I can easily get up to you though. I've been looking at everything from the youth hostel for about £25 pp through to a hotel I stayed in opposite the railway station which is about 350 pp a week. There's massive fluctuations depending on when you go. There's also a few Air BnB's that are good value. The thing is, if you're thinking of driving it opens up way more possibilities. I was going on the train if I was on my own.

I’d be bringing your bike and your golf clubs based on the current situation and snow cover, forecast is not hopeful. It's been very dry generally and there is very little snow about in general terms, i ran around some Munros last week and i've seen more snow in summer !

@@ryancartiers, north american trails are green, blue, single black diamond, double black diamond. In most of europe we have green, blue, red, black - so red = single black diamond. As always it does differ between resorts and red in one resort might be black in another etc. Some areas don't really differentiate between green and blue

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Red can be a double black diamond on a bad day with our weather. On that magical clear Scottish day the red can feel like a green, so dreamlike it is!
In all seriousness what @nbt, says!

The green thing is mostly a big, Brit dominated, French resort thing. You don't see green slopes in Switzerland really. And many of the better resorts skied by locals in Switzerland will not have much in terms of blue slopes (and if they do will have sections that will scare the average 1 week a year Brit).
Having skied both sides of the pond I would say the best comparison is:
Green = European Blue
Blue = Red (mass resorts oriented to 1 week a year skiers)
Single black diamond = Red in a locals resort in Europe (might be black in mass resorts oriented to 1 week a year skiers). Also pisted, genuine black runs and easy itineraries that are skied pretty flat/not that steep
Double black diamond = Genuine blacks in locals resorts (i.e at the limit or too steep to piste), steep mogul runs, steep itineraries with variable conditions/hazards, genuine powder runs of 35%+ gradient.
