Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Alleghe - busy at weekends?

 Poster: A snowHead

Does anyone with experience of skiing Alleghe/Civetta in late Jan know whether the resort can get busy on Sundays? I've read in a few places that although the slopes are often quiet mid-week, Civetta can get a lot of weekend day trippers. The reason I'm asking this is that although we will be staying in Alleghe all week, we plan to ski three days in Civetta and spend the other three days skiing in the Sella Ronda or doing the ww1 tour. I'd rather not use one of the Alleghe days on the Sunday if it is going to be crowded, but at the same time it makes sense to spend the first day close to home.

I'm assuming (based on my own experiences) that the main Sella Ronda area is no more or less crowded on Sundays.

Didn't notice any extra w/end traffic whilst there in a recent January, great choice of other resorts in the area for weekenders so should be ok just close to home. SR itself often pretty busy, the skiing off the SR circuit around Arabba and across to the glacier is closest to Alleghe and good. Enjoy, it's beautiful there. Try Cortina and the hidden valley run too if you get the chance.

We've done Alleghe at the end of Jan, the last couple of years and yes, it is much busier at the weekend. That said, it's all relative and it's so quiet during the week that busier doesn't necessarily mean 'busy'.
After all, the Sela Ronda is, IME busier at the weekend too.

Last year, people were saying, of the Sunday in Alleghe, "Well if that's busy, we're in for a quiet week" and we were.

Now, the following week, as we moved up to Arabba, happened to present the first decent fall of snow of the season, so the Sela Ronda was utterly rammed on the Sunday so it wouldn't surprise me if Allegha was rather busier too.

@lapalma, When are you out there? There will be a load of Snowheads in Alleghe on the week beginning 27th January. I don’t know the answer to your question but some on the Snowheads trip were out there last year, so may come along with their experiences.

Edit: I said there’d be others along soon. wink

Admin has it right.

Although Alleghe will likely be busiest on Sunday with locals & daytrippers ( though foul weather tends to put Italians off, you'll have the place to yourself on cold, snowy days in Jan), the Sella Ronda will be even busier, so I'd say spend your first day locally and find your feet, getting liftpasses and ski hire sorted. You'll likely want an earlier start for the days you do the WW1 tour and for travelling up to the Sella Ronda.

A day over at Falcade/Passo Pellegrino might be worth doing too, though that will also be fairly busy on a sunny Sunday too. A trip up the Marmolada would be a good one to do on a clear day too.

Thanks, that's very helpful. I think we will stay around Alleghe for the first day.
