Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

We used the school which uses all red suits , can't remember their exact name. My wife and I were in separate classes and both had instructors called Christian..both were excellent.

I live in Alpbach for a lot of the time and have done so for many years. Haus Barbara is fine and just a few minutes pleasant walk from the centre of the village. Pretty much all of the B&Bs are excellent. The blue ski school is Alpbach Aktiv - office in the village just by the church, headed up by Franz, one of the owners. The red school is Alpbach Ski School, office just by the obvious bus stop. It is the original ski school (it is a bit like the Austrian version of ESF). In the office will be Sepp, the owner, and Jackie, a nice Dutch lady. Both schools are largely aimed at children. It is slightly pot luck with the instructors; there are lots of new young ones this year. All is usually fine. The price is the same. Go with your favourite colour. Adults normally have privates, which cost more of course but nothing like France or Switzerland.

The week you are coming should not be too busy. I will return to the UK that week, but am happy to tell you the names and locations of the bars and restaurants, taxi drivers, ski hire etc.

well it is raining a bit today (nothing to worry about) so here you go. I am not very internet savvy so will not post the links, but they are easy to find, and your Hausfrau will call for you anyway: -

As someone said above Postalm is nice, friendly staff, good food when the main chef is on. One of the waitresses, Steffi, is a star.

Messner is good for a pizza and also has a full menu from the Jakober next door (same owners).

Hotel zur Post is next to Postalm and has good food, a bit more money but still cheap really.

There is a newish coffee come bar come gift shop called Flachlanders run by a lovely Dutch couple (Mark and Debbie).

All of these places are within 50 metres of each other. There are a few others but these are the ones we use mostly.

If you want a 20 min walk or a 5 minute taxi the Rossmoos is good and you get amazing views over the village (the other side from where you are staying).

Taxi firms are x2, both called Moser, Tom and Katarina. Good people.

Your Hausfrau will of course know all of this and arrange stuff for you.

Mountains - Alpbach side you have the Hornboden, which caters for the masses, not too bad. The Ast is nice and has a lovely new bar. The Boglalm is above Inneralpbach, and if you are really clever you can order some chicken the day before. On the Schatzberg side you have the Gipfohut at the top and another new place (just but the lift, forgot the name).

Ski hire - a few places, but Conni's (again by the bus stop) is the main place, but they have new young staff this season who I have not worked out yet. If you want to buy any kit ask for Sebastian but he will be busy. Or Hannes Lintner, but his place is down by the lift.

If you are sick of going out ask your landlady if you can make some pasta in her kitchen.

Enjoy. It is now snowing hard.
