Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I've had both good and bad boot fittings from S&R, so its not the location as much as the boot fitter you are allocated.

On the basis you know what type of boots (not model/colour) you want, and also know what you don't like about your current boots or hire boots, I would give them a call first and try and book their senior fitter, rather than just turn up and hope you get someone good.

How was your experience with S&R Exeter mate? looking to go next week for some new boots myself so would be good to hear your feedback.

@LDP816, Sorry only just seen your post.

Pretty happy overall. Was there for a couple of hours. Best to go during a weekday morning if you can get away from work. It was very quiet then.

I got a bit worried when the fitter put me down a size but it worked out well. The new boots are pretty snug but now I know why my old ones were so comfy, they were too big. She heat moulded the shells although I couldn't feel a lot if difference from before they went in the oven to be honest. S&R have a policy that you can take the boots back and they will fiddle around with them again and if after 14 days of skiing you don't like them they will buy them back off you for 60 percent. Probably applies to all boot retailers I expect. Bought a pair of Salomon x pro 100. Which is a fairly popular boot and I'm hoping my skiing will improve a little over my previous sloppy boots. We'll see how they work out on my forthcoming trip.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I got mine done there a few years back and found them quite good although obviously not a huge range available. My boots have been pretty good although my skiing/weight is probably a bit beyond them now.

Another option is Devon Ski Centre at Bovey. Haven't been there myself though.

I've recent had a new pair of boots from S&R (also X Pro 100... they must earn commission on them)!

Overall, very pleased with the service. Fraser (?) fitted me originally and is clearly knowledgeable about what's right/wrong, he's also got the patience of a saint.

I've been back 3 times to make minor tweaks as I've worn them in at home. As said, the benefit is you can always wear them for a couple weeks' skiing and, if they're really not working out, effectively pay for a weeks' rental and try something else.

Only criticism for me is the range isn't huge, but I'm more than happy with what I've got. World's apart from what I've been skiing in for the last 7/8 years...

@acrebo, To be fair to them I actually asked for X Pros's when I walked in. I have been wearing mine at home too and I'm hoping the liners will pack down a bit coz there could be a little pressure point on top of the foot. I'm hoping it will go away as its a bit of a hike to get over there for me.
