Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Why do snowBoarders sit in the middle of the piste?

Learned my boarding in Canada, they were very clear about where to (not) stop, it was drummed into me.

It seems to happen everyone, and sure maybe there are some resorts that are better than others but anecdotal evidence or 'sample of 1' evidence is pretty meaningless. And to demonstrate this... I learned my skiing in Andorra, they were very clear about where to (not) stop, it was drummed into me.
... he kept saying, "never stop in front of a drummer" but did I listen?"

Why just one pole? Surely, for balance, there should be one at the top of each pole?

Why do snowboarders sit in the middle of the piste? Why do skiers stand there? Because they're idiots.

There is no point in wasting precious time questioning the ways of fools. Spray the offenders with as much snow as possible and continue on your way.

There's a dick on those ski things in the image, so this is obviously not a problem - see thread title. The old folks don't mind careless skiers, the hate is reserved for snowboarders.

I think if you can't manage to navigate around a group like that, then the problem lies perhaps not with the group but with something else.

Lots of bitching.

For slalom practice.

Seriously though. Who cares? I ski in control and can ski round things. If you're not in control / can't ski round things then get a lesson.

It's a blue slope. Used by beginners, among others, I presume. Blocking the piste is selfish, discourteous and potentially dangerous.

Just as bad are the folk who enjoy hurtling down easy blue slopes at speed, scattering beginners like confetti. Saw some really bad examples of this in Val Thorens two years ago, where badly behaved speed merchants (students) reduced a poor girl to tears on what is supposed to be a gentle run. In the US, the ski patrol would have confiscated their passes.

One solution might be designated "dickhead" pistes, marked with a suitable symbol... then they could happily damage each other without inconveniencing the rest of us.

Sometimes it can be just because lift exits were designed for skiers not boarders.
The Linga end of the Gabelou for example, has a flat, leading to an uphill ridge before the piste which is a narrow road.
Skiers can dismount and sort out their poles / gloves / goggles / boots etc.. on the wide-ish flat bit before the ridge.
Boarders need to get to the ridge before sitting down or standing up to clip in.
You cannot sit on the LHS because people coming down the Lechere run will not see you, and on the right, you will be blocking skiiers who have sorted themselves out on the flat and ready to move off.
That being said, nobody should be going fast at that point as they will either be exiting the lift, or about to take a blind hairpin corner.
Despite this you get comments about blocking the piste from skiers pushing though to set off - who then proceed to zig zag randomly down the piste in front of you at 5 mph.
( I guess that's why they can't afford to lose valuable seconds waiting to set off Smile )

It's official: ESF instruct snowboarders from an early age on how to best obstruct the piste.
