No, not Alain, younger brother Noel starts with bib no. 3 at 12 (CET) in the Downhill leg of the Men's Combined.
No Finlay (you'd understand if you'd seen him try to ski the slalom!)
Today's results here (but although Noel did well to finish close to Raich, some big names were missing and racers were taking it easy, so don't expect too much ....)

Have I missed news about Alain? He doesn't appear in the start list?

rob@rar.org.uk, you stupid boy! Alain doesn't race downhill, and this is the first leg of the combined. Duh!

At least Noel made it to the finish, but it's a tough course and even Raich came close to coming out... Baxter will have a lot of seconds to make up in slalom though...
Two big crashes already....

PG, I thought Noel's time was pretty good in comparision to Raich, but as I only have the live timings rather than TV pictures it's difficult to tell how good a time Raich posted!

rob@rar.org.uk, Raich skied badly, reckon he's a good second or maybe more down on his normal standards...

The combined downhill course is usually a lot easier than the 'real thing' but with the course having been injected with water they're reaching speeds almost as fast as a couple days ago, despite the lowered start. For non-downhill specialists it's a bit scary... and it shows.

with the result that the surface is concrete hard, difficult to do these turns. There will be more crashes, I think!. It's currently Live on British Eurosport.

Right on his game. You could tell be the way he was brushing virtually all the gates how perfect his line was in the bottom half of the course, just one wide turn in the first section. Now, can he actually finish two successive slalom runs? Unlike WC combined, where the single run slalom leg was introduced to make it fairer on the downhillers, the Olympics has the 'traditional' format.

I thought Lasse Kjus had withdrawn from this race? Didn't he pick up an injury in the downhill on Sunday?

Aamodt did, but didn't hear of any problems for Kjus

Its Bode again - 2 out of 3 - he is ahead at the moment in the slalom

Bold hold on - it now appears that Bode Miller has straddled a gate and is now disqualified. It was only seen on replay. The Austrian, Benny Reich, now takes the lead.

Blimey, that's a very respectable time from Noel in the 1st slalom run! Quicker than Schoenfelder, 4/100ths off Mario Matt's time, and 3/10ths off Bode. Currently lying 16th. Good luck to him for the 2nd slalom run. A top 20 finish in the Combined would be a HUGE result for him

What order do they start in the 1st slalom run? Is it based on their DH times? I thought that the 'big guns' had skied already if we had already seen Noel's time, but there are several top rank skiers still to come

6:30pm this evening ( UK time ) and Noel Baxter is 16th I think

That's a good performance by Noel. 12th in the 1st slalom run, and 21st overall. At least half a dozen of the guys ahead of him are downhill specialists, so if Noel can have another good run on the 2nd slalom he should be in with a solid top 20 result. How well does he ski under floodlights? Good luck to him

Not a bad run from Noel; a bit hesitant on the top but seemed to flow through the gates at the bottom. Let's hope some of the next runners ski out, or slowly!

Amazing run from Ligety!
I love the "GateCam" in the verticale; really gives you a sense of how fast they are going.
