Alberto tomba
watched a documentary and his record in gs and slalom fits the bill.
I expect without injury michela shiffrin will be on top with the females across disciplines.
My memory of downhill was ski Sunday, klammer, maier, stenman.

Stenmark? I remember him getting top 30 or so in a downhill without ever getting into a tuck when chasing combined points. But its a long time ago and my memory's not what it was.

Klammer was downhill only IIRC. Once had an instructional video with him, Sharon Davies and Duncan Goodhew.
Not really up to date on modern skiers.
Tomba, Meier, Girardelli, Stenmark, Hirscher.
Moser Proll, Shiffrin. Maze.

Lyndsey Vonn got to be both the greatest Womens and Mens skier. Or at least, looks like she'll get her chance to prove that this season

Vonn is the greatest woman, no question. The numbers say Stenmark in the men but Hirscher has to be a contender.
Herman Maier was pretty exceptional as was Killy

I wish vonn had of had her chance with the men a few years ago.
I'm divided about it now, yes it will promote downhill but the gap will be too big, she has lost a lot of time esp last season, you can clearly see she has lost her nerve.
pity as I think she could of made top 10 at her peak.
the work ethic of shiffrin will see her elevate women's skiing, if she can adapt to the speed and her GS records so far allude to that, then she will be the best ever!
She is beating the field by seconds in slalom, thats insane

@grumpygargoyle, grounded too with family around her and doesn't appear to be a dull machine.
I follow her on social media and looks to train incredibly hard but have fun with it.
Could be the megastar alpine racing needs.

Shiffrin has amazing potential, her win at the World Championships was ridiculous and her reaction to the time was so genuine. Sport (not just skiing) needs more people like her.

I was working in Sweden during the Stenmark time. He won 86 world cup races. At the time the next country on the list was Switzerland who had about 50 wins. He competed in only one Downhill WC race at Kitzbuhl and finished about 35th. Despite being cautious he still beat the time posted by Killy 15 or so years before.
Work came to a halt whenever his races were on TV with everyone trying to watch.

Would be easy to look it up but as an absolute all rounder, i.e. wins in both technical and speed events I suspect Maier is at the top. In his prime he was regularly winning GS, SG & DH events and I can't think of any other male that has done that. Stenmark and Moser-Proll's records are perhaps affected by their era as they missed out on the SG as a race. Vonn for sure in the ladies and I suppose maybe Maze although I'm not sure if her discipline wide supremacy lasted long enough to earn her a place.

Surely Anja Paerson has to be under consideration for the World Cup Allrounder? Season titles in slalom, GS, combined, and overall, and strong placings in super-g and downhill. Multiple victories in all events. And that's not considering her epic World Championship record with a minimum of one gold medal per discipline.

Dunno what ones sexuality has to do with ski racing? Bit unnecessary to mention that.
