Taking of group of 25 - 30 people from work on a Corporate Ski Trip (lucky me!  ) in March 2018. Our two options are Cervinia or Mayerhofen.
Following an intense investigation process, we have found that Cervinia is considerably cheaper, but, by all accounts, Mayerhofen is better on the apres front. Any thoughts/opinions on where we should end up? Is the Mayerhofen nightlife really that much better, and does it outweigh the better food, that seems to be found in Cervinia?

Been to both. Mayrhofen nightlife much better than Cervinia although it's not the most boisterous Austrian resort. There was a fair gap between my visits to them but don't recall Cervinia being much cheaper than Mayrhofen. Mayrhofen isn't expensive compared to Ischgl, Lech, St. Anton or the French mega resorts. Skiing probably a bit easier in Cervinia but neither difficult for a relatively experienced skier.

Early March - Mayrhofen
Late March - Cervinia.
Cervinia nightlife is OK - there are a few decent bars and a good niteclub (well I liked it anyway!)

I've also been to both and thought both reasonable cost, think on a par with each other cost wise rather than Cervinia being much cheaper. Maybe you've found some good deals!
The skiing is much more extensive and easy to get at with longer runs in Cervinia / Zermatt ski areas. If it was just the skiing and food I'd probably choose Cervinia. I love skiing in Austria too and would definitely say the apres is livelier in Austria and Mayrhofen particularly.
If you've got a mixed group of abilities in that fairly sizeable group I'd say Cervinia will suit the less able skiers better. Some of the runs to get further around the mountain are often pretty icy in the mornings and so could be a bit intimidating.
Both good resorts though and imagine you'll have a blast in either, good choices!

Cervinia gives you the Matterhorn.
A chance to ski down into Zermatt.
A chance to do the longest run in Europe From Klein Matterhorn a 20-kilometre descent down red runs to Valtournenche

Go to the Hof, you'll have a great time! You can also take the bravest of the group down Harakiri, Austria's steepest pisted run. It's pretty steep, but short.

If all or vast majority of your group are dedicated skiers, Cervinia the better option, albeit plenty to keep high mileage intermediates happy in Mayrhofen.
Apres ski excellent and varied in Mayrhofen from full on party venues to quieter bars. As per previous post, not the most expensive in Austria.

@recz, Mayrhofen...for all the above, plus its got a glacier. Cervinia, been once - worst place I've ever ski'd, boring motorways runs and its a boring town, yes it links to Zermatt but its not the same!

Now, apart from sledging, is there anything by way of group activity that you could recommend? The Maison Vielle in Courmayeux last year was a blast so something like that would be awesome (though hear the early closing jumbo lift down is quite prohibitive).

depending on your accommodation / drinking / eating habits....i would recommend booking a booth in the Harikiri bar as you have a large number of people and it would be easier to fit them all in. A big group dinner in the perauer hotel....the specialist dish is the pork knuckle....1 between 2 they are huge!!
The restaurant at the top of the Ahorn cable car also used to do a wednesday evening fondue dinner with evening cable car and outside fire which was awesome fun...dont know if they still do.
The ice rink is also great for a big game of skittles / curling, you can hire all the kit on the night and there is a bar on site.

Cervinia for cruising runs and links too Zermatt. Get upto top of Gornergrat via train (one of the top 10 trips via snow train) and ski back to Zermatt or link across and head for Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. Then ski all the way down to Valtourneche via Klein Matterhorn. Try Zurg run Valtorneche... Great mountain to ski or board but remember to give yourself plenty of time to get back over to Cervinia... it can be really expensive if caught out.. Cervinia and Zermatt have plenty too offer: incredible lasting views, fab food and varied pistes.
Mayrhofen is fast fast fast, great skiing and après and decent accommodation. The accommodation in Cervinia is not as good. Better Après in Mayrhofen but not in same league as Ishgl or St Anton.
I just think there is more variety in Cervinia but Mayrhoffen has steep runs, However both are Glacier Resorts and pretty much snow sure. Mayrhoffen
Cervinia has it all incl one of the best mountain restaurants in Europe... remember the 3tenors but these 3tenors are crazy... dancing in Lycra and ski boots whilst singing and bringing everyone in to the mood.
OH TQA - I thought saurenne at Alpe d'huez was longest run in Europe.... 22km...

Difference in the longer run claims is probably due to the fact that the Valtouranche run from the top of zermatt, to the bottom of Valtouranche is longer, but it is not one long run. There is a very short, 200m chair to get you over a small ridge on the way down. So not a run as such. Barring this though the decent is longer.
