Poster: A snowHead
|
Hello everyone,
Was wondering if anyone had rented a car in North America and managed to get their skis inside? Options at the moment are a Jeep Patriot or Toyota Highlander but happy to go bigger if anyone has experience of not managing to get them into either of these.
There are 3 of us travelling so hoping we can put one half of the seats down and at worst rest them on the arm rest. Happy to take recommendations if anyone has rented something that was a breeze to carry them in!
Thanks in advance.

I always put my snowboards in the hire cars. They don't really have small cars in most places. I usually travel alone and there's no car too small, but even so they try to up-sell stuff to me. I always turn it down... and sometimes end up with vehicles with 8 seats anyway, as often they don't have the small cars available. Usually I just drop one of the back seats and stick my boards there. Personally I think the Jeeps are garbage, but they're pretty common over there.

RosigLOL, you should be fine with either - although you cant guarantee what the vehicle will be usually, only what group its in. The back seats usually split 1/3 - 2/3 , so just fold down the 1/3 behind the driver, this allows to slot skis in and pack luggage there too, leaving the rest of the back seat for passengers.
We prefer the next vehicle group up, as you have a bit more space to spread gear around, but we generally roadtrip.
As philwig, mentions you often get an upgrade so a bigger vehicle, 7 seater for 2 of us was great this season
Again the patriots aren't up to much really, Grand Cherokees are a totally different beast, but not the easiest to get hold of.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Unlikely to actually get the car named in the booking anyway.

You can usually pick and choose within your group from what's available if you ask nicely.

@RosigLOL, a pair of 177s and some 165s, plus a bunch of other stuff. Could have arranged it a bit better to be more comfortable for the guy in the back but it was dark and we weren't going far.
When you own a small car you get good at packing and appreciate how much stuff will actually fit. If I put the rear seats down I can easily fit 2 bikes in the back of my car.
