Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Snow sure in early December

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I'm looking for some advice on where to go for a quick weekend in early December (8th-10th). We will likely be flying into Geneva and hiring a car and have seen that Cham/Grand Montets opens that weekend (for weekends only) and would expect similar for VT. Can anyone recommend any other resorts that may be snow sure (ish) for that time of year - I appreciate this will likely be very hit and miss but trying to maximise my time in the mountains this year

Thanks in advance

Adam

Tignes? Although it had a pretty grim summer. Just make a list of places that in theory should be open and wait until the last minute to book accommodation. Zermatt/Cervinia.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Yeah, @Ruddster, you really want to decide a day or so before arrival.

We have a weekend in Champoluc pencilled in (it opens weekends early as well if it can).

The Austrian glaciers too. I skied some really nice snow at Stubai last week: https://www.instagram.com/p/BZTIaowAOcF/?taken-by=clarkleberryfinn

Problem is that the places that are snow sure at that time of year are not sure to have *good* snow - and not sure to not be socked in a massive storm dumping loads of pow with no trees to enjoy it in.

At that time of year book your flights and leave everything else 'til the last minute once you've seen the forecasts (i.e. 2-3 days before travel).

Thanks for the feedback all - leave the accommodation to the last minute was pretty much the plan anyway I think - just trying to keep costs down (as always) so was fishing for ideas more than anything - much appreciated

I go every year mid December for a few days and have never failed to ski.
Three Valleys, Tignes and Cervinia are usually your best bet from Geneva and wait till the last minute as accommodation is very easy to follow find then. Empty slopes too.

Unless autumn is catastrophic Tignes should be OK, even if nothing open below the glacier. But yes, leave it till the last minute. Accommodation will be no problem.
