Wear The Fox Hat, obviously a labour of love and no doubt appreciated by some snowHeads. To cut down the effort, I suggest focussing (initially at least) on the bigger / better known ones. Otherwise there's a risk the season will be over before you get through the alphabet.

Not sure where you got your list but it is missing all the major resorts in the Pacific Northwest like Sun Valley, Mt. Baker, Mt. Hood Meadows, Crystal & Mt. Bachelor.

Don't miss those resorts along with Big Mountain, Bridger Bowl & Moonlight in Montana since this years snow seems to be blessing the northwest part of the country. (Big Sky is having its best early season in a decade. Apparently all the snow you ordered for last season's ESA finally arrived.)

InaSpin, sorry, just took the list off our links page.
If you have more resort websites, let's get them on the resorts page.
(Oh, and I really should update the lists to say virtually everywhere is open with considerably more snow than the big euro places)

Snow Summit
Big Bear Mountain
Big Bear and Snow Summit do combined or individual resort lift passes (with a free shuttle bus inbetween) - combined lift pass is indeed value for money. Bear is great if you love park stuff and also some challenging (Double Dime) runs (Geromino etc.) Snow Summit has a mixture of runs, including some Double Dimes, Single Dimes and a freestyle park. Both have pipes, with Bear having a half and super. Snow Summit is more for the skier among you; but you can ski at both.
They are Southern California's premier (only?!) resort. You WILL get a good tan! (On a few days this holiday I was very tempted to go skiing in shorts and sleeveless top - it was that hot! But it can get VERY cold as well) This year, snowfall is still expected but the majority of runs are open (they have an awesome snow cannon system). You can also night ski at Summit (until 2100).
With the warm weather and lack of natural snow, some of the more exposed and used runs became quite slushy and mogully. Also, when some of the intermediate runs are shut, they only have a single dime as the way down, which for many learner snowboarders means shovelling all the snow down to the bottom of the run in big piles! But otherwise, the Western side of Snow Summit is quiet with some very good runs (Ego Trip - very good downhill/GS run!).
When they do get snow, it's awesome - last year skiing started on October 30th and continued well into April.
Plenty to do; and lift Q's are generally not bad at all. They also operate a hand your full day lift pass in before 1300 and get money off your next pass voucher which lasts a year.
Sorry...posted a little review as well!

Folks I am off to Mclean Virginia on the 2nd week of March for a course - where would you recommend flying to from there for a weekends skiing ?
I am not sure a 5 hour flight to Utah would serve any other point than to waste 2 days .... any suggestions - this looked like the best thread given the above ?

Fly up to Burlington, Vermont, and ski Stowe or Smugglers Notch.
United fly from Dulles (IAD) to Burlington (BTV). Flight time is about 1hr 40mins.
US Airways fly from Ronald Reagan Airport (DCA) to Burlington, VT (BTV) in about 1hr 30mins.
