Last season was the first time I varied my ski jacket between insulted and a gortex pro mountain equipments jacket and enjoyed the lightweight freedom the gore tex jacket gave me. I have always used Spyder dare insulated pants. This year I am looking at purchasing arcteyx stinger pants ( or alternative)but would like to hear views of anyone who has already opted to go this route and what do you wear as base layer leggings for warmth. Thanks

I wear a pair of winter-weight 2XU compression tights plus either a light or medium-weight Patagonia thermals. Works for me. Whether that works for you depends on many things... your tolerance to cold, the sort of runs you ski, whether you ride open or covered lifts, etc, etc.
I am very happy with my Arcteryx and Norrona shell pants - I have both. Could not imagine going back to padded/insulated pants.

I used the Arcteryx Stinger bib for many years, before switching to the Norrona Lofoten bib. There was nothing wrong with the Stinger's (I still use them as wet weather gear), I just wanted something brighter.
In terms of base layer/insulation, I use X-Bionics Evo Accumulator 3/4 length, and if really cold (-20C), a pair of Arcteryx 3/4 length Phase SV's.

I used to have the spyder Dare pants (and spyder jacket)
Switched to Ortovox shell jacket and pants.
Wear the Ice breaker oasis 160 Base top and 200 pants. Works perfect for me

Shell all the way.
Norrona Lofoten pants. Icebreaker base or False compression 1/2 mast and if it gets cool top up with a second 1/2 mast layer.

I have the Arcteryx Sabre pants so fairly similar and use Icebreaker 200 3/4 length leggings and/or Haglofs Barrier knee pants which are excellent for -10 or lower temps. I don'think I would go back to insulated pants now having used them for years before!

You can always stick another layer on underneath but with insulated you are stuck. I also have softshell touring pants for skiing on warmer days.

My setup for many years has been Goretex shells of varying versions with 3/4 length Helly Hansen tights and Falke socks underneath. I have Arcteryx, Narrona and North Face shells - not a lot of difference between them. I like the reduced weight and can't remember ever being really cold.

I switched from my old insulated pants to a North Face Free Thinker bib with Aldi merino leggings and survived Cervinia with -30 windchill. You can always pack on more layers underneath if necessary.

@Ozboy, the fabrics are typically manufactured by the same company e.g. Gore so I am not surprised there's little difference...

@under a new name, But there can be big differences between the fit and features. My Arcteryx Stingers are much lighter, narrower fitting and harder feeling, than my Norrona Lofoten.
Gore and others seem to be releasing 'new' and 'improved' versions their fabrics every other year, has they try and out do each other.

Started with insulated pants as I suspect most do, but only use them now if it's colder than -15C. Wear shell jacket and pants and merino base layers otherwise.

Whilst views are split over softshell, it really does work well for trousers. Mine are made from Schoeller Dryskin and are extremely light and stretchy and, most of the time, are warm enough. When it gets bitter I add some Aldi merino leggings that are cut to ¾-length.

I find what works best is any old pair of shorts underneath and on top of them whatever pants are on sale in sail and ski in Chester then go skiing without any complications

Arc Sabre here also. Only work some 3/4 merinos under them once in 2 trips so far. Wouldn't go back to insulated.

Shell all the way, make the switch last year to a 3 layer shell jacket and pants. nothing too fancy for the base layers just a thin t-shirt or base layer for the top with a mid layer and for the bottom is just my impact shorts (previous broken hip) and a pair of merino bottoms.
wore them right through last winter from Jan-March just swapping out layers depending on the conditions.

@Bennyboy1, Sport Pursuit. They sell off Sweet stock on a fairly regular basis.

Like others, very happy and absolutely no regrets since switching to shells. Current ones are Norrona pants and Sweet Protection jacket (both from SportPursuit). Even though I am normally fairly intolerant of cold, I find them comfortable with light insulation layers underneath.

I have a pair that I don't use any more. Fairly baggy in the thigh/back bottom, but quite slim around the ankle. Size small, but the sizing was a bit weird - I'm usually a medium (in Sweet and other brands) but that was too big this time (I'm 5"9 ~70kgs btw). Had a couple of pairs of Sweet pants in the past and been very happy with all of them.
BTW I'd be happy to sell them for a good price - PM me if you want details.
This is how they fit me (with full pockets haha):
