Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Pds was 3/5 today. Nonetheless, off-piste snow looked hardly worth the bother.

@Nadenoodlee, all the flags and indicators up the mountain were showing 3 today, but thanks for the unsolicited advice.

@Nelbert75, Good point about the possible reason for the closure in Chatel. I nearly barrelled into a stream bed (1m deep, 2m wide) crossing the full width of a piste on Nyon yesterday. The pisteurs had put a pair of crossed hazard poles in front of it - so that's ok then! wink

Also never heard the term "snow bridge" used for anything other than glacial crevasses, but why not for pistes crossing streams etc., definitely bridges of snow!

Avy was 2/5 below 2,200m today, i.e. PdS. And yes irrelevant as it's all pants. The mild weather is giving the waterlogged snowpack a chance to drain before it re-freezes. More snow Thursday! snowHead

Off to Chatel for Feb half-term - haven't been for a few years (2011) but what's changed in terms of the ski lifts/ restaurants - any good recommendations on eateries and ones to avoid! We prob just stick to Super -Chatel area for skiing as have 3 inexpereinced beginners with me (so won't venture into the wider PDS area)

I'm nipping over on Thursday for a long weekend, I've never skied the area before so I presume there's no need to bring big skis?

Depends how well you ski Marc Smile There are some very nice pitches to be found, especially off around Mont Chery in the Les Gets area

I would anticipate that the best you're going to get is some spring snow transforming if it's sunny. Based on the weekend's Flaine experience, I suspect the rain went "all the way up" last week.

Morzine lower runs have been smashed by the rain the past few days. Most of the town is green again.

All lifts and all but 2 pistes open in the Morzine area today. Most of the hill is white.

hmmm, that video ends with "there is some snow forecast for this week and then the good times will return". Not this week they won't I'm afraid, dry all the way.

@whitegold lots of good snow above 1000m....and it has been snowing in Morzine every week since mid November (apart from this one of course).
Either way, forecasts are still lining up plenty of goods for the 2nd half...come back in a week.

Know someone there at the moment and they reckon the village looks more like March than January.

Webcam clearly shows half the valley is green today.

ok, we are in Les Gets from Wednesday, and my physio has asked me to give my knees a rest, so I'll mostly be doing blue runs and taking a break after every other run or so, so I'll need to advice on which piste side bars to choose from whilst I'm giving my knees a break?

Any suggestions regarding bars and where they are located?

@kitenski, those are very nice shots Greg, especially like the "Hoki Koki" moment NehNeh

Sounds like it's the little skis; they're fine on transformed spring-like stuff anyway.

And Les Gets village cams are still showing a white covering.

@Queequeg, you`re right, that was lazy posting from me, I should have checked. Enjoy your skiing.

@Sack the Juggler, La Paika in Les Gets at the top of the Turche drag lift, is very nice as is Vaffieu at the top of the Golf chair lift, also a really good one on the right after you go under the bridge on the golf run back into Les Gets.

Wondering if a Chatel person (Chatelier?) could explain why on the Super Chatel side today (at 14:40 hours) only the lifts above the the Super Chatel plateau were open while non of the lifts from the bottom on that side were operating and how would people access this part of the mountain. Is it capacity management to protect snow cover on a warm day for the the weekend?

I'll be hosting a comprehensive guide to Les Gets bars on friday night for Mr Juggler, PM if anyone else is brave / foolish enough to join.
Here are some of the on-piste options...
Mont Chery: La Grande Ourse (swanky), Belvedere (lots of room, great views) and Le Chanterelle bottom of north side slope, check for live music afternoons
Chavannes...QG towards the bottom, funky choons, expensive burgers, my favourite spot during / after a slide (as close to home)
Mid station Chavannes....plenty of choice, if Yeti busy, Croix Blanche and Altitude more civilised
Top of Nauchets lift...Lhottys
Top of Charniaz lift....small bar up to the left as you arrive
Top of Rosta ....La Rosettaz....amazing views towards Mont Blanc on clear day, decent pizzas

@Ozboy, are you basing comment on what the app says or what you actually observed? I say that because the report of open lifts is not always accurate. If it really is as shown on your link I suppose you could get to Super Chatel from Morgins if the Corbeau chair and the drag lift were working.

Only chair lifts shown red so maybe wind (but if so why was Cornebois open at PLJ - that's generally more exposed).

A strange one.

Was never a huge fan of Lhotty’s as they wouldn’t give me a free lunch when guiding.

Chez Nannon much more obliging.

@under a new name, Lhotty in a pretty good location....nothing special, but does beer and burgers reasonably well
Nannon would be better if you could actually get a table there, ever.

@DJL, From the app and also reflected in the downloadable official PDF. You were right.. I've just read the small print on the PDF carefully which notes: "Fermeture des installations pour vent fort" (ie. strong Foehn!). Perhaps PLJ remain open due to wind direction or they are more resilient detaceable chairs due to age Going green Going green
