Poster: A snowHead

Opening ceremony in Turin was a pretty good start. Pavarotti and a Ferrari sharing the same stage - typically Italian!

Glad I wasn't there - real bum numb, I would say.
Started off watching - lost interest in the program when it went into a sequence of Claire Horsey Woman driving round the mountains (what has she got to do with snowsports?).
Switched on again to something called "Renaissance to Baroque". Switched off. On again - to some weirdly dressed ballet dancers. Switched off. On again - a Ferarri F1 car. OK at least that's sporty and Italian. But it wasn't on long. Off again. On - to the swearing in of atheltes and officials. Then the flame lighting - at least I saw Tomba - a hero. Spectacular flame lighting. But the whole thing seemed out of hand.
I think opening ceremonies have lost their way since the LA summer Olympics - spectacular, tongue-in-cheek, and fun. Now long, pretentious and turgid seems to be the order of the day.
But the again, I can do Philistine.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Nick Zotov, didn't watch, but these ceremonies leave me completely cold too.

I watched it - well I read a couple of magazines while it was on telly, and loooked up whenever Mrs NBT started making noises. The bits I saw were quite interesying

I thought a few bits of it were a bit dull, but some of it was spectacular (although I'm a bit of a sucker for big theatrical events, so accept it's not everyone's cup of tea).

Saw 3 minutes - plenty.

I think that the Olympics is a special event with a remit for an opening that probably doesn't apply to any other event....so bearing that in mind I managed to watch the whole thing and I am surprised to say that I enjoyed it! It was a great start to the games.

we'll the only bit worth watching was the 'parade of the athletes'. Quite amusing to see 50 year old competitors in tea-tray sliding (great I've got 15 years to go before I start waxing mine up!), but what was much funnier was the number of 'teams' with around 1 athlete and about 3, 4 or 5 different officials - chinese taipei, portugal, ethiopa were just three that caught my eye. No wonder why you' can't get a hotel room in turin for love or money, it's all the 'ahem' officials from other nations..

crazy_skier_jules, I agree that ski-jumper was amazing. The whole thing was on in the background whilst doing other things, what I saw of it was quite spectacular.
Missed Kwame/Snowlepoard - did he get enough FIS points in the end?
As they all keep having to out-do the previous event's ceremony, I wonder what London is going to do? - Band of the Coldstream Guards, some pearly kings and queens (a must, surely) and David Beckham I shouldn't wonder... perhaps it will bring a sense of normality back to the whole thing.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Sadly he fell short by a way - but has said he'll be around the olympics in some capacity, so keep your eye out for him commentating is my guess

We watched it on NBC (last night in banff). The US commentary was some of the worst jingoistic nonsence I've heard in a long time. No mention of the names of the UK competitors but plenty on the war on terror etc...
Canadian coverage of the moguls was pretty good though, watched it with a few beers at calgary airport.
