Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

New route next season(for us)

Next season we will be driving out to the alps via Harwich to the Hook of Holland, satnav has us via Metz and Nancy before coming down towards Lyon and across. My question for snowheads hive brain concerns the return leg; confident about the drive down, but will need to break the journey on the way back up as we have a 14:00 daytime crossing. If any snowheads do this route where do you take an overnight when coming north to the Hook? Thanks

@Ian Kenvyn, it depends a bit on where you are heading.

We do the route from Chatel towards Hoek frequently to visit Mrs DJLs family and go via Bern, Basel, Mulhouse, through the Vosges for a bit of interest then Nancy, Metz, Luxembourg (cheap fuel), Brussels, Antwerpen.

Sounds like you are heading further South so towards Lyon is an option or you could go via Geneva/Annecy. Lyon is often horrendous on a peak weekend. Geneva may be not much better.

It's a longer drive than to Calais but if you are on the night boat you could do it in one hit. If you are aiming to ski departure day and get the following day's night boat you could overnight wherever you fancy. Somewhere in the Vosges perhaps. Once you drop down towards Nancy it is a bit uninspiring.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Just work backwards down your outward route to somewhere which allows you to get back to Hook by 2pm. Metz has lots of places to stay at all prices, Nancy a bit less choice. Do stay north of the Vosges/Jura as you don't want to risk snow there first thing in the morning if you've a boat to catch.
